Different, But Deep Down Inside, The Same: An Espresso

Yes, Petrushka
We
eat different food
wear different clothes
have different customs
speak different tongues

But
we
all
fall in love
and get up
when we fall

We
all
want
Someone to hold
A family to cherish
A way to be happy

We
all
want
To not be afraid of the dark
Literally
Figuratively
Dubiously

We
all
Want to live a long time
And die a good death

What does it matter
if
we wear a suit,
a sari,
or a grass skirt?

Deep
down
inside
We all cry when we’re hurt
Laugh when we’re joyful
And feel the rumble in our stomachs
When we’re hungry

Though we look and behave differently
We are all the same

All lovely
All quiet
All human
All the same

This poem should suffice in its simplicity. It came to me after writing a lovely article,
exposed first on Medium and then here at selmamartin.

“…they eat different food and smell differently;
they dress differently and they even worship
differently, than I do,” says a didactic voice we recognize.

That article, How to Use Compassion as a Tool to Connect, offers practical examples of how we can be more accepting of each other. And how compassion makes us stronger.

It employs Snoopy’s lighthearted humor and timeless wisdom. Snoopy’s musings start as a dilemma that always causes me to pause and ponder the big questions in life.

It also draws on our diverse cultural education, setting boundaries, and our undisputed right to justice. It shows us how we are more alike than different. All points to help us understand the characteristics of compassion.

So, if you have time to read more today, I invite you to click on the link. (It’s long, and only four people have read it so far. It could use more love *sigh*).

A girl. Looking content. Flower wreath on head and bouquet in hand.

So glad you agree. We are the same more so than we are different. And even then, our differences add flavor. I appreciate you reading and commenting. Be well. I wish you miracles. xo
