Day 30: NaPoWriMo 2024–Mary Magdalene At The Doctor’s

Day Thirty on APRIL 30, 2024

All good things, even Na/GloPoWriMo, must come to an end. But we’ll be back again next year
(and also tomorrow, with our final featured participant!)

Today’s featured participant is 7eyedwonder, where you’ll find a feisty, albatross-themed poem in
response to Day 28’s Taylor Swift-themed prompt.

Our final daily resource is this repository of podcasts hosted by the Scottish Poetry Library.

And now for our last prompt of the year – optional, as always! Today, we’d like to challenge you to
write a poem in which the speaker is identified with, or compared to, a character from myth or legend,
as in  Claire Scott’s poem “Scheherazade at the Doctor’s Office.”

Happy writing!

My website suffered a temporary glitch… for two hours…I feel cheated.
But we will not linger on that… Have a great day everyone.
Good night from me.

Mary Magdalene At The Doctor's

Sat with hands cupped on my lap
ready to receive good news--
my soul prayerful and pleading.
The doctor clears her throat once
more; eyes me, blinking often
and whispers, "So very sorry,"
and recites a litany
of words I cannot discern.

At dusk, I trudge to the open
window to streets dispeopled
by the day's rain. The decline
of evening light stirs inside me,
fills me with the pain of distrust.
The voice within, attuned to
mercy, yawns a contagious
yawn, and in the jasmine-d wind,
I hear, "What if it all works out?"

I cannot write and publish one poem a day otherwise. These first drafts will take me a long way. Thanks so much for reading them, dear Diana. You’ve no idea how much I value you and your lovely comments. Blessings dear one.

(You are so much more of a real poet/writer than me… I know it. And I don’t understand how you can participate in all those prompts —simply amazing.)
