Day30 Glo/NaPoWriMo: Oh Captain! My Captain! A Cento

Oh Captain, My Captain!
I am hungry. In two more days, it will be spring (2)
The trench lights gleam and the rockets play (3)
So! While these wait the trump of doom (4)
Let the world choose to *envy or to wonder (5)

Oh Captain, My Captain!
Did He who made the lamb make thee? (6)
The port is near, the bells I hear, (1)
It is a burst of Heaven-shaking thunder (7)

Oh Captain, My Captain!
I can scarcely wait till tomorrow
when a new life begins for me,
as it does each day, as it does each day. (8)
And they whispered to each other:
“Does he mean himself, I wonder?” (9)
                       __

*enuy (I changed the original spelling to envy)

                  Cento: NOT MY WORDS.
These mined lines belong to various poets.
They have helped to make me
                   a string of pearls
                   for your enjoyment.

Maureen, my gratitude to you for the prompts this year has no bounds.
You might not be here reading my words, but I have confidence that somehow
you will feel the sincerity that I’m adding to the gratitude words of my fellow
participants and are sending out into the universe.
Grateful for all the hard work you put into these– every day.
Blessings to you: they will come to you in drips for the entire year.

May they take you far and serve you well in all your pursuits this year.

My second Na/GloPoWriMo was phenomenal.
Thank you. Again, I bless you and wish you miracles.
And to you, my encouragers, Thanks most sincerely.

Selma – this is unbelievably good. Or… maybe believably, now that I think about it…

David, hi. Aww, you are the sweetest for saying that. I will take the compliment. I’m so honored you read and found this one worthy. Thanks so dearly, young man– This old mama has to hibernate for a while now. Wake me up when July comes. Please. Thanks.

  7. Nope, Not Pam

Very clever and very challenging to compose. 🙂

Centos can be a challenge to make sense. You’ve done well. I imagine the ‘Pirates of Penzance’ – only because last year I saw the play (on a premium chanel) at a friends home last year. I’d not seen the whole thing through and it was a fun watch.

This poem takes me back to high school, I remember reading Waltman’s version and I so remember loving how that poem was bagged with emotions, today reading your interpretation on it puts a wide smile in my face and I loved your take on this one. ❤️

Hey Selma, lovely poem. I recognised Walt Whitman :). I received your comment and have been with WordPress Support to fix the issue. Please see if you received my reply to your comment now.
