GloPoWriMo 2023, One: Spring Has Sprung–Huzzah! Start Your Engines

snow finally melts
hustle and bustle returns
town floods with children

the morn weeps dew drops
all around moisture-laden
comedienne moon
*
Tokyo Sakura,
dazzling as long as they could
now let themselves drop

At first, I thought the week was progressing too slowly; that’s what rainy days do
to me, and then, the sun broke through, and I felt my vertigo return. What the heck!
It’s very disconcerting. I’ll try to stay the course and do the best I can.

Today I’m off prompt (and off-course, really), But I am so happy to see this day.
Hope you enjoyed my offer.

Prompt on Day One: Poets, Start Your Engines

And here’s our own prompt (optional, as always) for the first day of
Na/GloPoWriMo. They say you can’t judge a book by its cover, but they
never said you can’t try to write a poem based on a book cover — and
that’s your challenge for today! Take a look through Public Domain
Review’s article on “The Art of Book Covers.” Some of the featured
covers are beautiful. Some are distressing. Some are just plain weird
(I’m looking at you, “Mr Sweet Potatoes”). With any luck, one or more
of these will catch your fancy, and open your mind to some poetic insights.

  3. Wishing you health, productivity, joy, and fulfillment, Selma. I enjoyed reading your boigraphical essay and your poem. I can’t believe I had to look up “sakura!” I lived in DC for seven years enjoying the cherry blossoms, a gift from Japan, and the Cherry Blossom Festival every spring!

    1. Selma Martin

Thanks for the well wishes dear Cheryl.
Sakura. Aww. You always knew it, you just forgot. Isn’t it a lovely thing this ephemeral beauty?! Enjoy your Sakura viewing. Happy spring.

Thoroughly intrigued by that “moisture-laden comedienne moon”! I just read your intro essay and love that you “continue galumphing in poetry.” We shall galumph together this month!

    1. Selma Martin

That comedienne. Yes. She’s quite the lady.
Romana. Thanks so much for dropping by. You’re amazing. I bless you.
Oh, yes. Galumphing in poetry we will. ✍🏻 🤓 thanks for reading the essay. Blessings.

Great poem, Selma! Is there a way to subscribe to get those prompts daily, or do I just need to visit the site every day? I’m thinking of writing a poem a day but posting them once a week. I barely have time to write. If I have to post them every day, I’ll never get it done.

    1. Selma Martin

Go at your own pace, dear Yvette. If there is a way to receive the prompts directly into your inbox I am not aware of it. I check daily. Have bookmarked
      NaPoWriMo dot net
so I have it right there.
And when you visit, do click the heading for that day to see what others are saying in the Disqus Digest. It’s like the WP Reader. A whole ‘nother platform.
If you like I can send you the daily prompts directly into your inbox. But you’ll need to give me your address. Yes, I’ll do that for you. 💗, gladly. No problem. Xoxo
And as long as you’re writing you’re participating. So don’t stress. Blessings.

      1. yvettemcalleiro

Thank you, Selma! I’ve bookmarked it like you have. I appreciate the offer. XOXO 🙂
