Sufi Insight On The Four Gates Of Speech — An Espresso

I’d like to resume the practice I started shortly before embarking on the 30-day challenge in April. Espresso is the name I decided on these short morsels of wisdom I wish to share. They’re my humble attempt at helping you feel gladdened and revitalized, and yes, sobered like when one drinks a shot of espresso.

If espresso is not what you like to consume, think of these as opportunities for
escapades to indulge in your favorite non-alcoholic drinks. After all, we want
you to be sober. *wink*

Another wish is that you will share some of your short wisdom with me:
a link/pingback to your unique poetic expressions (expressos) or espressos, or
linger long enough to enjoy a cuppa with me.

Is it true?
Is it kind?
Is it necessary?
Is this the right time
to say it?

Thanks for reading. I wish you miracles and I declare world peace.

UPDATING for those readers with young kids:
My good blogger-friend, Yvette M. Calleiro, author of a great many books,

and lovely supporter on Twitter and here on WP was kind enough to give
me the heads-up on a lovely poster at her school. She said,

“In our school, we have a poster that says:
Before you…
(social media icons)
THINK:

T – is it true?
H – is it hurtful?
I – is it illegal?
N – is it necessary?
K – is it kind?

Our mental health would be so much healthier if everyone abided
by these questions.”

A great way for kids to remember. Thanks, Yvette. I appreciate this. xoxo

  5. Nope, Not Pam

Questions I wish my daughter would ask before she starts talking 🙄

    1. Selma Martin

Hey, Deb, the WP goblins gobbled up the words I tried sending days ago. And this is no lie. So, as I was saying, scroll down to read Yvette’s comment. She adds a kids friendly way for kids to remember this courteous rule some of us adults forget sometimes. Kids do too…so please go easy on your daughter. Thanks for the comment, dear one. I appreciate the support. always. I wish you miracles.

I need to keep those questions close every day. I wonder how the world might change if we all asked those questions.

    1. Selma Martin

HI, lovely Kathryn. Like I was telling, Deb (commenter above), the WP goblins gobbled up the words I tried sending days ago. No lie. so please forgive the long delay in my response to your lovely comment. Imagine how the world would change if we considered those crucial questions. Kindness would multiply, I think. I need to continue the practice as well. Thanks for commenting, dearest.
As you know, with the lovely wedding done I am moving on with my to do list. Taiwan Seems the place to go next. Argh. Anyway, I can fight it no more. Send good vibes. I bless you. xoxo

I truly applaud this way of simplifying things for kids. So perfect. It’s so helpful to start kids on this path young. Love this. If I may, I’d like to add this as an update on the post. Let me know if you rather I didn’t and I’ll remove it. Thanks, sweets. I bless you. Stay blessed. I wish you miracles.

  8. Daphny Aqua

Those are certainly some questions we ought to think about while taking a sip from our espresso 🙂

    1. Selma Martin

You got that right, Daphny dear. Crucial questions. We’d live in a kinder world then too. Yay– win/win.

Thanks for reading and commenting. I appreciate you. xoxo

  9. Jules

This reminds me of a hymn (paraprased) ; ‘We were given two ears and one mouth; We should listenen twice as hard.’
Which goes along with; Think before you speak. 🙂

    1. Selma Martin

Oh, yes, indeed. I know that saying. This short mindful awareness of a common fact would go a long way. Thanks for adding to the conversation, Jules. I bless you. xoxo

  10. Sonia Dogra

Something we must all ponder upon before we speak. What an espresso shot, Selma! Loved the idea.

    1. Selma Martin

Hey, Sonia, dear. Thanks for the visit. So glad you found it to add value. Hope you’re revitalized as well. I bless you. I’m just barely here. I have a trip pending and I’m somewhat worried. Will visit when I’m more relaxed. I wish you miracles.
