Slowdown To Balance the Hierarchy #poetry #earthweal

Birth of Our New World
is Imminent

After darkness is worn
and transfers to the light of morn
diligent watchman, salty Shore
is keeping score

Mother Earth raises her head
to salute watchman Shore & Father Sun
but gasps with disbelief and dread
at her glaciers looking woebegone

so Earth cries day and night
Sun hurriedly wipes her tears away
in the dimming of the light
he promises to find a way

but the way — it needs roots
attached to Human hearts and brains
for without one or the other
it would all be in vain

A Human, the smartest of her children, stirs
but only to pull the curtains
“Just this once,” Human mouths to the dim light
afraid to offend the god of false assertions

hooked on fake realities that seem normal
surrendered to must-dos and pressures
forgetting for who but for hereinafter
Human doesn’t see Mother’s repressers

but Mother doesn’t fight the youngster
“fighting blocks the flow,” Mother says
and cries as her beautiful rivers swell in anger
and her forests fire spit and burn in rage

"one day
there will arise
an awakened one," Mother murmurs
and takes to reciting her orison:

reel in abundance in love and awareness
limit the flow of material abundance,
change the narrative, consume less
get proper rest and show your radiance

make good use of regenerative practices
build businesses that matter right now
consume less and change the imbalance
help restore my lungs-- take a vow

"make business models of scarcity,"
in a breaking voice, Mother utters,
"ask questions that support life
write the stories that matter."

but the song and dance continues for decades
as Mother watches her children turn into zombies
yet she holds on to hope that one day soon
One will awake more woke to tilt the hierarchy

For the Earthweal prompt for this week.
Inspired by Ingrid at Experiments in Fiction Website.
Borrowing the wise words of a dear friend I admire on Medium.

“The Time has come. 50 years ago the seeds were planted and now the new world
wants to be born.
“Please, let’s start writing the stories that matter.”
~ Desiree Driesenaar on Medium:
Hey Girls, Can we Please Start Birthing a New World?
~ Desiree Driesenaar's website and Linktree

Write something about silence
write something that should be spoken out loud
write something slow, hurry up
write something that should be whispered no more

you’ll need to suspend disbelief for a moment,
while I ask you to slow down a bit
like your need to fight everything that comes your way,
like the belief that you need to explain

(neither do you need to
understand everything)

but you’ll need to shut it down for a moment,
retrieve and ask for an audience with silence,
zoom out, and listen to the silence talk back
relinquish your need to distract

with aplomb, serenity, and slowness–
observe yourself from above
speak if it improves the silence
but slowdown, hurry up

Strong messages always seem to come in threes for me. Yours was the third reminder to “Write what matters” via Desiree. Slowness…that’s where I’ve been lately. Slowing the activity, taking time to wonder, marvel, and discover “what matters” within me. Like many, I spend too much time trying to live up to other’s and my own expectations for achievement. I do it unconsciously because the habit remains so ingrained. Something is birthing. I want it to matter. Thanks for your insight and beautiful words.

    1. Selma Martin

Hi, Kathryn. I get messages in threes sometimes as well. And I always believe this is part of a greater plan. And so I pay attention. Yes. Desiree and that article come to remind me of what is important. I appreciate you reading and commenting. You already write stories that matter. I know. Be well, dear one. I wish you miracles.

Yes — it’s a wonderful concept, that a horizontal slowness can “tilt” the speedy buildup of the hierarchy. It’s slow steady work and we do it without haste and without stopping. Thanks so much for sharing at earthweal. – Brendan

    1. Selma Martin

Hey, Brendan. Such a great website you have. I’m glad to have been sent here to investigate. So glad you could resonate. We need to slow down the madness. We need to look around and see what’s really happening. Then set to work: without haste and consistently. Because, the pretext that we are going at full speed now to have something solid in the future… huh! what future? We better slow downs down to set things straight for the NOW… or else.
Thanks for the comment. I appreciate you.
