I’d Grow A Mustache In Solidarity In November #dVerse

No shade,
no shine, no butterflies, no bees,
No fruits, no flowers, no leaves, no birds, –
November!

it's no wonder
why your vember
needs tender warming up

there's
no shine
no butterflies,
no bees,
when November
comes in
booted

there are
no fruits,
no flowers,
no leaves,
no birds,
no more!

what your vember
needs
no doubt
is
a cooling down
grow a beard, man
or a mustache
to raise awareness
for all brothers

in November
there's Movember
to shine light
on male misfortunes

be it prostate
or testicular
or male suicide
that runs rampant
you can help to
change the face
of
Mo Bros' health

calm your vember
in November
don't be
nervous or neurotic
grow a heart
for all our men
--solidarity!

Written for dVerse Poetics, hosted by Sarah this week. Thanks, Sarah.
And that poem– this is my first time meeting it. I like it. Thomas Hood’s “No!”

As we’re here, in mid-November, I thought it might be fun to pay tribute to Thomas Hood’s poem. Just in case I get a resounding “no” from you, here are some options:
(Please click on the link to see the options Sarah lists)

I went for a free-style poem to raise awareness to a movement referred to as Movember, where Mo in the word is a reference to a mustache/moustache (a portmanteau of the Australian-English diminutive spelling for mustache).

By encouraging men (whom the charity refers to as “Mo Bros”) to get involved, Movember aims to increase cancer detection, diagnosis, and effective
treatments and ultimately reduce the number of preventable deaths.

Aside: Did you know that vember is a slang verb? I didn’t. Used when something makes you uptight and nervous.

Thanks for reading, everyone.
No shade, no shine, no butterflies, no bees,
No fruits, no flowers, no leaves, no birds –
I’m a great fan of November: Yes-Vember!
All the best to all. I wish you miracles.

Vember – I resemble this word. 😁 Reading your poem made me chuckle, but I don’t think that was the intent. It was a fun read.

I didn’t know it was international… I have noticed the mustache in ads also here in Sweden, but had never heard it named as Movember

Awwww Selma, girlfriend you know how to warm a girl’s heart. 😍💖🥰 I too am so glad our paths met. We must do our part to shine our light and bring positivity to a world that seems so divisive and negative. We can be that change we want to see. Hugs and smooches girlfriend. 🤩✨😘🌟😎

Educational and compelling. A kinder gentler approach to men may help convince some that it’s ok to be kind and gentle themselves.
