Look around you, kid. In less than two hours, the world will upgrade. The old one's broken-- it always has been It puts too much weight on contests and outward growth drains one of green life-force to advance us It gives confusing, stiff messages about what our bodies are supposed to look like Makes us ashamed of what our bodies became-- 'till we start to disassociate when wonderful we are from the start Puts too much value on vanity, bragging providing no outlets for vulnerabilities and foibles Makes us snare at each other's whimsy, makes us capricious, cold, and blithe-- numb to emotions of empathy Hails the availability of the damn easy-button, infuses us with gadgets and mind-changing drugs that give gratification, illusions of calm It preaches: boys don't cry, boys don't feel; girls conform and obey. As if! Encourages the open-at-all-hours mindset; to do more at the expense of sleep. How in the world could sleep be optional? We, intelligent people with smartphones, private jets, and important hectic lives– got tricked into believing in a dog-eat-dog world, tricked into clinging on to a made-up existence In a world that gripes too much, stockpiles too much, speaks from a forged height of grandeur, and steps over those less fortunate. Look around you, kid. In less than two hours, the world will upgrade. That old world's broken-- upended, derailed Go! Gather your loved ones this upgrade will advance us, but only if we switch to a brand new angle: One that transmits a more accurate story; a world of equity that leads to equality that unites our collective spirits, by the same story of love for earth and brethren. One where we spread a message of hope for our children, for our homes because what we forfeit today are things for everyone's sake tomorrow. Look around you, kid. In less than two hours, the world will upgrade. To that old world that's broken-- grace, essence, hope-- inner peace will descend. *** © 2022 selmamartin.com

Powerful and to the point. Incredibly well done, Selma 💕🙂
Your words are precious. Thanks.
This is a wonderful write. I loved the narrator in this poem. The voice drew me in with its sense of urgency, and has me rallying for the upgrade, that we so desperately need.
That upgrade is on its way, I know — um, I hope– but unlike St. Nicholas who covers the whole world in one night, this upgrade is slow. But we gotta trust its on its way. Let’s continue to rally for it. Thanks for your lovely comment. I appreciate it. xoxo
Patience and perseverance!
Thanks for the input, dear one. I bless you. xoxo
Love this, Selma! I wish we could truly have an upgrade. It is much needed indeed. 🙂
A much needed upgrade, we need. Let’s channel our energy and hopes in that direction and the universe will conspire to get us there. Ah, we sure need this. Yvette, thanks for the lovely comment. Blessings.
This is absolutely the need of the hour Selma. We need this makeover from the hollow and superficial to the complete and holistic. Each of us needs to upgrade to this changed mindset for a better tomorrow . A powerful write ❤️
Radhika, dear, you said it better than I could. Exactly: “Each of us needs to upgrade to this changed mindset for a better tomorrow .” So happy to read your comment. I bless you tons.
I echo your sentiments here, Selma 💚
You are the sweetest for saying that. Thanks. I bless you.
Hurrah! You have singlehandedly upgraded the world with this one. Thank you, Selma.
Yeah, but not just me, my dear. I followed the heartbeat of the gang. Gosh, if only… but it will come to pass, stay and watch… Love you. Stay sweet. xoxo
sounds like a good upgrade to me…(K)
Right? People get ready… It’s happening because now the people are waking up… Thanks, K. Your comments uplift me. You are the best.
Selma, you have reached a new level of artistry and creativity with your words and images. Awesome!
My sweet Kathryn. Your words make me sound better than I am. Really. Thanks.
And Kathryn, Jamili is overjoyed at the 🐌 💌 in her 📬. Gosh 😘
Let’s talk soon. xoxo.
Terrific poem Selma, but the upgrade won’t be installed
Oh? It’s loading. Give it time, Deb. xoxo
Loving your water photos and quotes. Keep going. xo
upgrade we must!
Right, you are my friend. It’s happening. A collective energy roaring already. Wait and see. *wink*
Wonderfully done, Selma! We truly need an upgrade.
Glad you see the benefit of this one. Everything need upgrades. We are getting one…
Ain’t that great…
Nicely done, Selma. It seems we are moving that way quite fast. You have outlined our world’s problems very well!
I’m so glad you read, kind friend. It’s coming– [people get ready: Jeff Beck/Rod Stewart] picking up passengers from coast to coast like THAT train… Thanks for reading and commenting. xoxo
This is so good, Selma. Such a resounding knock on the conscience to wake up and focus on what’s really important. I loved the line on sleep. ‘How in the world could sleep be optional?’ and ‘It puts too much weight on contests and outward growth/ drains one of green life-force to advance us’. A perfect title for the poem- it caught my attention.
Fascinated by you. Thanks for all the encouragement, dear one. Glad how you always find something to like. I know we all relate. I know poets know this. You are the best, lady. Stay sweet. I wish you miracles. xoxo
Change is on its way and we will upgrade. Beautiful indeed my dear Selma! Love it❤️
Rhamhona, my sweet. I know you know! We will upgrade. Let’s hold on to this… I wish you miracles.
Yes it will surely happen. Thank you dear Selma.. sending my love to you 💕❤️❤️

I wonder which parallel reality this is happening in, Selma! In some ways, we are upgrading, I suppose, spiritually, but all the debris we leave behind is so hard to ignore. We wade through it daily. And yet I hope it’s true, that we are slowly attempting to solve our global mess somehow <3
