Day22 Glo/NaPoWriMo: The Ding-A-Ling Of The Thing #rondeau

Day Twenty-Two

on APRIL 22, 2022

Happy Friday, dear friends. Happy Friday, dear word lovers!
So, today we’re repeating for emphasis, and seeing as I have a practice piece
in the form of a rondeau that’s just sitting there doing not a thingy-dingy,
I thought I’d share it with you to celebrate the lovely prompt. Hope it’s ON prompt.

THE PROMPT:
(optional, as always).
In honor of today’s being the 22nd day of Na/GloPoWriMo 2022, I’d like to
challenge you to write a poem that uses repetition.
You can repeat a sound, a word, a phrase, or an image, or any combination
of things.
Happy writing! Happy writing! (See what I did there . . . ?)

The lofty thought of writing it down
for later years for me to undrown
Never went farther than mental shelving
In the library of inner selfing
— I’m living it, so I’m wearing the crown.

The thought of soliloquizing in town
feels vain, sonorous— stuff for frowns.
Then a think came to me at the hot spring:
Those lofty thoughts,

foil them who think me an improper noun,
and their besots make me a proper clown.
With nothing but my soul rising
watch them hear the ding-a-ling of the thing—
when I’m done/gone, the words will stick around.
Yes, lofty thoughts!

aR-a-b-b-a//a-a-b-R//a-a-b-b-a-R is the rhyme scheme of a rondeau.

It’s composed of fifteen lines,

eight to ten syllables each,

divided stanzaic-ally into:

a quintet,
a quatrain,
and a sestet.

I’m pretty new to this form and was practicing it the other day, and when I
read the prompt required repetition I thought of my rondeau.
(repeated myself on purpose) *wink*
