Koharu: Little Spring– A Warm Winter Encouragement #tanka #poetry

dancing in my mouth
a candy drop — tastes like spring
lighthearted, floral
I forget myself and pop
another — two little springs

It’s getting colder by the day, and warm soups have been a significant part of my family
staple. I like to make lentil soup in the summer, but I love it lots more in the winter
when the kitchen windows fog up and we’re all warm and toasty inside. Soups are best!
What foods or comfort foods do you like in the winter months?

There’s still a long way to go until spring; it will take a lot of wintering to get us there,
but spring certainty is something great to look forward to.

The Japanese word for spring is haru. Spring is sakura, and what loveliness that is! I’ve
seen beautiful American photos of boulevards of blossoming cherry trees– stellar
indeed, but I still love the aesthetic feel I get from the sakura blossoms in Japan best.
I’m biased, I know.

My tanka today is about conjuring a ‘little spring’ into your winter season by popping
in one (or two) fruity candy drops in your mouth. I love the idea and hope you felt
something (something like a bit of spring and warmth) move inside your soul as you
read the poem.

Thanks for being here and reading.
Blessing you and wishing you miracles

It’s a beautiful poem. And I agree with you about the cherry blossoms in Japan, it’s like it’s snowing petals. Very magnificent to see.
