“I’m Bored; Life Sucks!” She Said, They Said. Now What?

It’s simply mind-boggling– the generation with insurmountable venues for
entertainment is the generation that’s always complaining about being bored.
Who’s responsible?

Poem: BORING

Go to Twitter and declare
IAB — You are bored!
Watch them come,
Bring you likes —
Retweet your
Boring tweet
Call you a badass
Influencer

Pooped,
But not bored (zzzZ)
Fall asleep
Fully dressed
Phone in hand

Go to Twitter and declare
IAB — You are bored!
Watch them come,
Bring you likes —
Retweet the
Boring tweet
Call you a kick-ass
Influencer

Pooped,
But not bored (zzzZ)
Fall asleep
Fully dressed
SAA — Shoes and all,
PIH — Phone in hand . . .

Hello, Friends. A question: Can you recall the last time you were bored?
Be honest now– I cannot.

I *read and go crossed-eyed in amazement: so much to read, so little time,
so much living, no time to be bored.

(but watch me go to Twitter and declare IANB — I’ll be the oddball. Because on
TheTwitter you’re supposed to talk about the negatives. Going there and declaring
I am not bored would only get me crickets!

And say, if I were to get a whiff that something was not stimulating
(because sometimes *reads are not entertaining to my mind at the moment).

Like the poem today, intentionally BORING!

But does that temporary incident have the power to mark the end of my quest
to find a better poem or article to read?

Who’s deceiving who?
Who’s boring? Whose mindset sucks?

Might those poor souls, pictured above, who are always bored be using
the word boring interchangeably?
If so, why?
To mean what?
Or using the term to conceal something bigger?
Like a failure or a lack?

Wisdom comes in what you choose to do from here on — do you decide that the
deficiency is someone else’s fault/responsibility for making you bored?

Where is your responsibility in this?
And your purpose — where is it?

SMH!

Because really, boring in this time of abundance
and insurmountable choices —
POOP! I just don’t get it.

Are you bored? So, what are you going to do about that?

*read: replace reading for your interests
POOP: paradoxes of our present!

there was faith — which is childish;
trust — which is vain;
and illusion — which is dangerous.”

“In the end, it is all about memory,
its sources and its magnitude,
and, of course, its consequences.”

I maintain a presence on social media, but I’m not sure how much longer I’ll be there.
Twitter, Instagram; but this website is where I like to socialize. Here and on my once-a-month newsletter where I open up to my pen pals.

Why a newsletter? Here’s a post to explain my reason:

Blog. October 2021

Well, because life is EVERYTHING BUT boring.
So stay away
from those life-sucking, irreverent thoughts
.

Thanks for reading
I wish you miracles.

Right?! That attitude on any social medium is sad. And the “congregation” keeps growing.
      Thanks David.

Life is too busy to get bored. If I get free time, I savor it.

    1. Selma Martin

Too busy to be bored. Yup. Me too freed time is luxury. I’m never bored.

I don’t think I’ve ever been bored. Even as a child, I found ways to entertain myself without any electronic devices, which consisted mainly of one black and white tv. And social media…I use it as a playground and nothing more. I share my thoughts and creations expecting nothing in return. But, I do smile when my friends leave a heart or message. That always makes me 😊.

We found ways. We learned. We find ways now. Yes when we value human connections we can “afford” to smile and cherish the perks. I am missing you.
Thanks for reading and commenting. ♥️ 🏹 ❤️

I’m never bored, Selma, the world is full of wonders…I am trying to teach my children. I think it starts with YouTube and video games!

    1. Selma Martin

Never bored. So much living to do! I know exactly what you mean. Too often we hear people expressing such irrevarant thoughts and it saddens me. Thanks for reading and responding. Your concern for the kids shows me you are on the right track. Stay the track and you will have resourceful young men. Blessing you.

  8. judeitakali

I’m somewhere in between generations now, but I agree that with everything, people should not be getting bored. I also love the poem.
I should mention though that young people are just experiencing a world with so much and haven’t identified what works for them so nothing is working for them just yet. Self discovery can happen when we are teenagers, or when we are 70yrs old.(just pondering)

    1. Selma Martin

So true. Self discovery can happen anytime. Thanks, Jude. Blessing you.

  9. Cheryl, Gulf Coast Poet

Those who are bored need to develop some inner resources! And a mission in life! They need to open their eyes to society’s problems and the needs of others and start doing something to improve life on earth. I find the stories of the many young people who do just that to be very inspiring!

Wonderful post, Selma! You got me fired up for so early in the day! <3

“” I find the stories of the many young people who do just that to be very inspiring!”” These are indeed the best stories. There’s a renewed life purpose when we hear this. Thanks for reading and commenting. Your words are precious to me. I bless you. xoxo

I am resisting Instagram and Twitter (why waste my precious time? I already do that on Facebook) But seriously, when my children said they were bored I’d usually find a task for them to do!

    1. Selma Martin

Why waste precious time. Don’t. Lots to do every day. Never bored.

  11. Selma Martin

Chores. Purpose. Involvement. Awareness of being part of the big living machine is what we all need. And appreciation follows. You did well. Finding something for them to help out with. Wonderful. Thanks, Lynn. Blessings.

  12. Belladonna

Nope not bored! I refuse to have my kids say that word. These kids on social media really get on my nerves.

  13. Cindy Georgakas

Who has time for being bored. It’s a concept I’ve never understood❣️

  14. Baydreamer - Lauren Scott

I’m like you, Selma, I have so much to do with so little time that there is simply no time to be bored. The younger generation is growing up with screens and instant gratification, so I imagine their patience runs very thin. My time is spent more in the land of blogging than on FB and Instagram, and I’m not on Twitter. ❤️

    1. Selma Martin

Living in hyperstimulating environments … those poor souls!
      And not only the young!

Twitter is so different from when I first dipped my toes in. No one sees me, really. You do well by staying away. Stay true to yourself enjoying every moment. Nothing beats that.
Bless you for reading and commenting. All the best as you keep going. XoXo

  15. willowdot21

We all could say we’re bored especially when young but really just open your mind and then you can see there is no time to be bored… Very well said Selma 💜

  16. CHUONTHIS

Love your poem. It is a very accurate description of our youth who love flashy things lol. To them I would say, it is a wonderful thing to be “bored” or “boring”, to slow down, to be still, to do absolutely nothing. From there your own sense of self and creativity can be found. It’s hard though because we all are always distracted by flashy things lol. The last time I was bored I was watching paint dry, literally, lol. But it taught me to be patient and find the beauty in waiting. 😊

    1. Selma Martin

The lessons are there. How lovely of you to share this with me. Thanks. Blessing you. XoXo

  17. Maame Twumasi

Getting to sit and just be is one of the simple joys of life that doesn’t get enough credit!

    1. Selma Martin

Indeed Indeedy! Glad this resonated with you, Maame
And thanks for reading and commenting. Blessings.
