Three Choices: Poetics #dVerse

Which scenario fits the core of your soul's choice?
That our lives have no purpose, no rhyme
That the world is neither friendly nor unfriendly
That the big guy's just tossing a dice;
Making victims of us at random

Or that the world is an unfriendly place. You swear!
That technology exists to teach big guys a lesson
That with these machines, we'll surely thrive:
We'll create bigger walls and weapons to destroy
All unfriendlies and isolate from them, completely

Or that those who see this world as friendly
Will use technology to advance us in our troubles;
Use the machines as tools to shed light to discern
The workings and the motives of the universe

So, of these three choices, I present to you today,
Which school of thought is close to your heart?
Only three; more than three is surplus.
Will one sag you, will one edify you, will one fit?

aaah, let’s welcome a choice of three,
    much more manageable than infinity

    1. Selma Martin

Hey, Katy, yes, this is when less is more for manageability, just as you point out. I see a Friendly world, I know you do too. Thanks for commenting, dear one. Blessings.

  2. Kathryn LeRoy

Always choices, but I prefer a friendly place by far.

    1. Selma Martin

A friendly world, yes. Goes with all the hope we know exists. Thanks for visiting and commenting. All the best to you, always and forever, my sweet. xoxoxoxoxo

  3. Sadje

I believe that the third one is the closest to my beliefs.

    1. Selma Martin

It’s close to mine too, Sadje. Same-same. Yay! Perception! Thanks for reading and commenting. Blessing you.

      1. Sadje

        My pleasure dear friend

  4. ByteSizedStudio

A lovely expression of the individual choice to face facts or hide from them. Well done.

    1. Selma Martin

Hello. Thanks so much for the visit. I appreciate it. Wonderful prompt. Keep doing this. xoxo. blessings.

  5. Nitin Lalit

This is a very metaphysical piece. I absolutely loved the concept of offering the soul three choices. I sadly have to go with the first two because I don’t see things getting better. But maybe there’s hope. Great poem.

    1. Selma Martin

      Hey, Nitin. No judgements here.
I will stay with hope for both of us. I have broad shoulders… Thanks for the visit. Blessings.

  6. Ellie Thompson

An interesting choice, but I would choose the third verse – a friendly world. Xx 🦢🥰

    1. Selma Martin

You do, too, Ellie?! Nice. I see it as friendly as well. Thanks for reading and commenting. I bless you for being you. xoxo

I am one who does not rush to choose, inherently knowing there is yet something else still over the horizon — must be, history seems to verify such. It is also a characteristic of my ADD, and occasionally gets me in trouble. I live with many things undecided, a frequently expanding and contracting quandary, probably too many loose ends — but it always fosters surprise Selma.

    1. Selma Martin

“always fosters surprise” — I like that, Rob. And no rushing anything or anyone here. We go at our own pace. I appreciate you reading and honoring me with a comment. Stay as you are! I bless you.

  8. Björn Rudberg (brudberg)

I think it is easy to make a choice… unfortunately there are always those who don’t make a friendly choice.

    1. Selma Martin

I agree with you, Björn. Choosing is hard when the world is screaming and giving such horrid examples. But choice making (and change) are the constants we face in life. And at the pace and level we are. Thanks for the comment. I appreciate it tons. Blessings.

  9. Nope, Not Pam

Great poem Selma, though I think there’s a fourth choice, we procrastinate and do nothing.

    1. Selma Martin

Doing nothing is also a choice available to humans. Things usually fall into place. Thanks for reading and commenting, Deb. Blessings.

  10. Helen

After what happened in Bend on Sunday evening … I choose love, peace, humanity, brotherhood of man. Your choices are beautifully composed.

    1. Selma Martin

Choosing love, peace, humanity, and brotherhood of man is the best choice of all. I’m heartbroken that such a horrid disruption came this close to you. Let’s hope we’re nearing the end of this maniacal period in our history. Sending blessings, Helen. Stay safe.

  11. Grace

I am a positive person so I will choose the friendly one. It can get crazy sometimes but we all have choices to make this world good or not so good. Thanks for joining in.

    1. Selma Martin

So happy with the friendly choice. The crazy is TOO OVER THE TOP, but still we prevail to right things in the beautiful friendly planet of ours. Thanks for having me. Love it here. xoxo

Spreading the light with positive vibes helps cancel the negative of social media!

    1. Selma Martin

Positive vibes travel… and we must keep it alive for our own sanity. happy to get your perspective on this, kind sir. Stay blessed.

  13. memadtwo

I’m not sure technology is ever friendly. I’d prefer a choice with less of it. (K)

    1. Selma Martin

Oh, technology can be finicky and a time eater. I suffer tremendously from it. Mainly because i fear it. But this wheel is non stoppable. Like everything it could be used for good or bad. See how it was favorable during lockdown… it’s all thanks to technology and the fact that it was put to good use.
Many used it in wicked ways too, but… ZOOM, ZOOM… Thanks for commenting, dear (K) I value every interaction with you. Stay sweet.

  14. Jeff Flesch

A lovely contemplation, Selma. Choice 3, please. xoxo

    1. Selma Martin

Yes, Jeff, Sir… it’s the best choice of all, methinks. Oh, and Congratulations. September 01st is here. Wow. Amazing day. Blessing you.

      1. Jeff Flesch

Thank you so much, Selma. It’s been a super fun day. Blessings to you too, dear friend.

  15. ben Alexander

I agree with Jeff – I’ll go with three too! 😀

    David

    1. Selma Martin

David, we’re in good company. Blessings. xoxo

    1. Selma Martin

Good company with that third one. Thanks for adding your thoughts, Cheryl. We live in a friendly world. I know. xoxo

  16. Daphny Aqua

I will go with the third choice because a bit of positivity can always shed a light and spread love all around. ❤️

  17. dorahak

A conundrum, as is so much in this technological-driven world, Selma! But it’s worth thinking about as you so cleverly show.
