The Lone Apple Tree Is Never Lonely

“…whoever you are, no matter how lonely, the world
offers itself to your imagination…”

Ripped from the insides of a meaty cocoon,
The little seed was swept up by a winged-creature
She slid down a chute
Landed squarely in a dark place
Where the air was like nothing she knew

She lay still for hours
Wondering where her sisters had gone
Until covered in dung
Like a missile, she shot out
This time, landing by the house of three spoiled brats

Rain cleaned her anew
Sun dried her, restored her
Effortlessly,
Deep into the warm earth
She shimmied

In time stringy legs grew under her
Her neck rose up tall to the light
In a matter of years
Blossoms and bees tickled her ears
She found her place in the family of things.

“…whoever you are, no matter how lonely, the world offers
itself to your imagination, calls to you like the wild geese,
harsh & exciting — over & over announcing your place in
the family of things.”

Mary Oliver, Wild Geese.

The quote-prompt above sparked the Lone Apple Tree Poem.

I hope you enjoy them. Let me know.

Stay well, everyone.
I can’t tell you how happy it makes me to know you’re there.
You guys are the best. I bless you.
