Record Keeping For When I’m Old and Grey

THANKFUL TUESDAY

Some of the honest, heartfelt reviews I write for my fellow Authors on Amazon
have magically disappeared, so I know when I tell you this happens. Sometimes
I notice, other times the Author clues me in, and sometimes nada. Many times
when the Author tells me of such an occurrence, I place another review of my
verified purchase on MY area bookstore, and we go on as if nothing happened.

I’m doing my own record-keeping: You might see this as bragging, but I assure
you bragging does not fit in my equation. These reviews are humbling, and their
weight is worth more to me than you know.

In time, I might not remember who’s who, but I’ll make sure to stamp the words
somewhere (here) for the time when I think of right now as the good old days.

Amazon: 23 total ratings, 21 with reviews.

Heartfelt!

Selma Martin dedicates her debut poetry collection, In the Shadow of Rainbows
to “you, the person holding this book,” and she writes, “I’m confident that one
poem in this book will take your hand . . .” I found several in this heartfelt
volume that took mine.

“Golden Durability” touched me and made me think of my own mother. “I pretend
it’s her wrist I kiss.” Several poems within this collection touch on family
and memories. However, it is nature that stands out in most of the
poems—sometimes as a memory, sometimes as observations of seasons changing
or time passing, or being with a lover.

In “That Sea,” Martin writes, “you dwarf me with your magnificence,” and “My
sea, you invigorate me why I’m drowning.” This is a powerful and lyrical poem.
One that particularly spoke to me in this volume of beautiful poems.

Readers are certain to find a poem here that will hold out its hand for them
to clasp!

Five Star Review

Selma describes her debut collection of poems as “seeing rainbows on eyelashes.”
What a profoundly potent image in such a simple phrase! Indeed, Selma's poems
have so many such images that I was amazed by her depth of perception. She writes
clearly of simple, everyday things with sensitivity and intelligent reflection.
She sees magic in the ordinary. She sees fairies where others would see
butterflies.
These are excerpts from my two favorite poems in the collection:
Something Broken
“That scraping, maddening sound,
that creaking and groaning I hear –
like iron on iron
that rises with the wind
and is followed by the loud bark
of a neighbor’s dog
if that dog hears it,
everyone in this sleepy coastal town does. . .”
South-Southwest
“What about the little stars,
Daughter says,
Mom turns to look—
Nothing but pebbles
scattered in the moonlight.
Mothers don’t understand,
the little girl says. . .

It’s not fair that reviews written with genuine feelings have disappeared from Amazon. I’m glad you’re keeping a record of these heartfelt reviews.
    A beautiful poem Selma. Thanks

That’s an awful thing when reviews disappear. It’s not fair to the reviewer and to the author as well. Hopefully they can fix that if it’s a glitch.

Beautiful poem, Selma. I’ve read it a couple of times before commenting as it’s just so lovely. 🙂🌷

That’s so unprofessional, if you ask me… but no one is asking me… I really dislike it that they do that.
And thanks so much for liking the poem. I enjoyed writing it too. Blessings. xoxo

One big problem with the internet is that it has no material form. I’m sorry you are having problems. I too hope it gets fixed. (K)

Amazon gives itself airs sometimes. This shouldn’t happen but it does. Bless you for commenting. xoxo

Well-deserved praise: what a joy to cherish and learn from them what moves your readers’ hearts and minds.

    1. Selma Martin

Absolutely. What resonates with the readers echo loud within the Author. It feels good indeed. Sure, it’s not the readers/reviewers job to make the Authors feel good. But that’s how it feels. Thanks, Dora. Xoxo
