Phoenix
When you were still green behind the years, and self-righteous thoughts ruled, do you remember feeling like a phoenix endowed with mighty physical-strength? I know, right!
But did you know that’s how nature intended for us to be then? Yup!
Then the years accumulated, and what happened? The sharp-witted ones like you turned to the lightness of spiritual strength.
Again, would you believe that this is how nature intends it? Ditto!
Today I wish to point out to you that no matter how ordinary a path your life has taken, you’re an extraordinary creature that fits beautifully in the sphere of things– a lovely equation endorsed by nature.
Lessons
In mythology, the Phoenix is a large, colorful bird that lives for centuries or even millennia. When it dies in a fire that it creates itself, it rises anew from the ashes. For this reason, the Phoenix is a revered creature, often associated with time, immortality, rebirth, and resurrection. And youth?
If in your youth you faced hardships, most likely you became enlightened early. You know, too, that the only beasts of the world you can tame are the beasts that live within you.
Assuming that your youth followed a linear progression like mine and that smooth-faced you had more time than you knew what to do with it, it was your stamina, fitness, and physical brawn that stood out.
If you turn to science, you’ll hear of studies like this one from the New York Times that say,
“Even at a young age, physical fitness has beneficial effects not just on the body, but also on brain health and brain functioning.”
Nature’s doing folks.
But what you and I didn’t realize when we were young is that our skin’s smoothness and physical robustness were not things we earned– those were gifts given to us by Mother Nature. It just happened.
We didn’t realize that the smoothness of our skin and
physical robustness were not things we earned.
Instead, those were gifts given to us by Mother Nature.
Those gifts served a purpose, specifically, to get us ready and closer to procreate.
Growing old, like youth, is something that just happens– a well-timed gift from nature. But with growing older, our physical muscle begins to wane.
So what can you do? You can hit the gym and try to keep up, that’s what.
But if you dare activate your third eye expertise, you can do even more to augment your being-hood by achieving spiritual strength.
Phrased differently, that last part means this: Mother Nature does not endow us with spiritual strength. That, my friends, has to be sought and earned.
“Oh, very young, what will
you leave us this time?” ~ Cat Stevens
How do we earn it?
Often, spiritual strength is earned through accumulated suffering.
Before you go crying that it’s not fair, let me tell you what I’ve learned: this is not spiteful. In fact, this is part of the well-thought-out plan.
See, Mother Nature knows that it’s not physical strength that we need to carry us over the threshold of emotional pain– to transcend that, we need spiritual vigor.
***
In our young years when arrogance and self-righteous thoughts ruled us, the challenges were nothing major to transform our lives yet– thus the green behind the ears connotation.
Not until we are mature people do we come to live through enough to instinctively fall on our knees in humility, compassion, and reverence.
At Midlife, it’s not physical power that we need for the incline; it’s internal strength– better yet, the incredible lightness of spiritual strength– that we need to continue going up.
That’s the reason why we must discard of baggage that holds us back. Going up, we need to travel lighter– our souls demand it. It’s the only way. Going up, we get to work in the field of consciousness.
And one more thing, because we need to go higher in consciousness, we need to go about it slower (something that’s hard to grasp when we’re young). But watch it; going slower doesn’t mean we’re doing less; we’re doing more.
How so, you ask? Well, we’re going slower because we’re going in more profound, contemplating each step, reseeding the consciousness of our planet.
Do you see how it’s not spiteful of mother nature? There is a balance here– physical strength in the young; spiritual force in the old.
So, about them Phoenixes, perhaps I missed it, but the myth says nothing about these creatures being wise. Wouldn’t it be amazing if, while we advance towards the lightness of spiritual strength, we strived to be wise phoenixes too? Let’s grow old and smarter in internal strength, as this truly is humanity’s source for redemption.
