Hatsuyuki
my daughter called, so, I’m on my way
the work today will have to wait
we’ll grind the beans, steam soymilk
sit and sip, guffaw, growl
meanwhile outside, the
light spills over
as the world
turns white–
snow

Happy 2022 to all, and may we all keep the flame of hope, gratitude, awe, and optimism alive throughout the year. I bless you.
Today is the last day of Christmas, Epiphany, as I know it, and guess what we got from
the Three Kings? Snow– all 6 centimeters of it! The first of the season in these areas. I enjoyed the change of scenery, and on my way back from a visit to my son (I have two sons, and one lovely daughter-in-law *wink*), I took a couple pics to show you. Hope
you enjoy them. Most likely, it will all be gone in the morning.
The first week of syllabic poetry at Colleen’s Word Craft: Prose & Poetry calls for
Poet’s Pick & Color. I titled this one Hatsuyuki for the first snow (white), and the form I
chose is a Classic Nonet. No rhyming in this form, minimal punctuation, and the nine
lines have a syllabic count from 9 – 1.
Thank you so much for reading. I wish you miracles.

Thanks, David. It was a distracting day but I seized the day and feel good for it. Thanks for reading and commenting. I appreciate you. xoxo

The greatest pleasure is the appreciation I receive from You. Thank YOU. Happy New Year, Harmony. I bless you.
💕Happy New Year! 💕
Enjoy the snow and the time with your daughter, Selma! ❤️ ❄️
Thanks, Ingrid. I was a most pleasant day. I appreciate your visit. Hey, you know I took a long break and now I’m finding it hard getting in a rhythm that works. If you see me slacking too much and need to reply to something, or else– please give me a holler and I will rush to you. I want to learn Shakespeare from you… xoxo
😊 the courses are in the pipeline, but first I must push a few books out! Busy times, but I’ll look out for you! ❤️
Absolutely beautiful! <3
Thank you for teaching us the word Hatsuyuki. If we had any here – before the stuff that is expected today, really tonight (we were away). There has been frost, but no accumulation. I think we had a few flakes briefely for less than ten minutes sometime in mid December 2021.
I do have some photos of the few blizzards we have had. But generally while cold, we don’t get that much snow in my area. On the far side of the mountains and a bit south in the state. Though my hubby did prepare our small snowblower yesterday. 😉
You wrote a lovely calming verse. Hubby explained that if you mix all colors of light you get white. If you mix all (solid) colors of paint you get black.
Best of the New Year to you and yours. ~Jules
Love learning new words! Love what you wrote about the snow! 🙂
I really like this. It gives you that true sense of snow day calm
What a delightful photo and it teams so well with the photos. Stay warm 🙂
Amazing pics, Selma and the nonet is so lovely. I can imagine both of you having fun together. 💞
The pictures are so pretty, and I loved your poem, Selma! I’m a big fan of alliteration, and your poem had plenty to make me happy. 🙂

Thank you so much.
Thanks Selma 🌷
Selma, these photos are stunning! What a beautiful country you live in. Japan has always been one of the places I would have loved to visit. Your Etheree is a mindful moment of calm in the wake of the storm all around you. That is nice juxtaposition. Well done. <3
Such a beautiful piece Selma to match your photos! 💖
Aww. Glad you liked. xo
Lovely pictures, Selma. Happy New Year to you. I’m glad I learnt a new word from you today, it’s a beautiful nonet. 🙂
I’m STILL smitten with the poem and images Selma. I keep coming back to visit and revisit … just because I think you’ve captured something as equally special as that “first snow” moment in your words. I like the word choice, the way you’ve captured the idea of setting aside the “necessary” perhaps, to choose to sit and share, in fine company …. and oh, that lovely word “growl” …. HA! Brilliant! I can’t help but imagine the scene, smell the “bitter stench” of ground beans, hear the noise of it happening, like chainsaw teeth! … listen for the hiss of steamed soymilk etc. Truly wonderful poem Selma. And wow, those images. Love them. It just seems all so exotic … seeing the snow on the temples and forms, the lines, shadows, geometrics taking on new depths and dimensions. Totally rocked this. But that’s no surprise …. you’ve written from the heart and from a place of curiosity and wonder …. delightful! 💖
Aww, you. You’re a living poet. You ARE poem. So glad to know you 👏
oh wow, what a lovely compliment … thank you 💕 ✌
How lovely to be able to capture the very essence of each moment with all these senses. Nice one, Selma!
You’ve encouraged me more than you know. Thanks so much for the kind words. Blessing to you.
This is a gorgeous nonet. And perfect color- white.
Thanks for acknowledging… sweet. xo
Love this!
… and you know what else? Today I received your lovely Christmas card. Yay! I knew it’d arrive. And just in time. I’ll send you a picture. *wink* Hope you received mine. xoxo Thanks for being here. Greetings to the family.
