Introducing Selma's debut story, Wanted, Husband/Handyman, a heartwarming tale of love, and new beginnings.
When her husband dies leaving her with two toddlers and a baby on its way, Mrs. Jon White puts a desperate want-ad in the newspaper. Days go by.
And just when she's about to give up hope, a man in a Stetson hat pays her a visit. What she gets is more than she bargained for.
Here are a couple of short reviews from Amazon satisfied customers.
* This was a courageous story as well as a sweet story about love. Grace a woman suddenly alone with child, other children to raise, and a homestead to maintain after the death of her husband.
* Tim a lonely lost soul, drifting through life. Grace gave him the means; husband/handyman to rediscover his worth, and learn to live again. Tim and Grace saved each other and in the process found love.
This was a good short story. I enjoyed the handyman/husband angle.
* A lovely story that reminded me of the Waltons television show I loved years ago. If you're a fan of Laura Ingalls Wilder's stories you'll enjoy this tale of a farm family. I hope it's an introduction to more chapters in their lives.
* Without your typical romance, flowers, and candy, Selma skillfully articulates the essential heartbeat of love. Through their trying and unusual circumstances Tim and Grace develop a growing love. A beautiful story that this reader hopes has more life.
* I loved the gentle natural flow of this short story that captures the beauty of becoming a father. Recomendable for anyone who wants to enjoy a placid and profound life moment. Could not have rated it otherwise. Thanks.
* If you're looking for a story full of thrills and action, this isn't the story for you. But if you're looking for a slow, winding story full of vivid descriptions you can't help but imagine in your mind, this tale is for you. It's sweet, calming, and the perfect portrait of an important moment in the characters' lives. Grounded and real, you will feel deeply for the characters by the end.
* Selma Martin’s new short Wanted: Husband /Handyman is the story of Grace, a pregnant widow with two small boys to raise, and Tim, the stranger who responded to her desperate want-ad. Both characters must determine if Tim is the right man for the job. I really enjoyed the descriptions of country life these people lived. It has a Western feel, though the location is not specified. The story deals with important matters and could easily be expanded. The narrator’s voice perfectly captures the quiet strength of both characters as they work to develop their relationship. Readers who enjoy a quick romance will enjoy this story.
* This story is wonderfully written. I bought it knowing it was short (I think Amazon said 19 pages). And like with most shorts, I was left wanting more. The story itself is a beautiful one about a woman who lost her husband and put out an ad for a 'Husband/ Handyman'.
Even though short, the story demonstrates how people need each other and that loneliness is no fun.
* Selma Martin has crafted a beautiful love story between a woman, recently widowed, who is expecting a new child and a drifter who some might say was her soulmate entering her life at just the right time. The character of Tim who comes into Grace's life after answering her want ad in the newspaper shows us what all men should aspire to be; kind, gentle. hardworking and dependable. Selma's eloquent prose guides us through this gentle story and despite a tense ending ultimately brings the story home to a wonderful happy conclusion. 5 stars for sure.
* The cycle of life, ups and downs, and the power of loving relationships all shining brightly in this short read.
Am still smiling after reading it. My mind can’t help wonder... what happens next.
Thanks, Selma for birthing this story into the world.
