Bloganuary: These Rains We Need And Need Them Not

these rains, we need and need them not--
for the rose, the corn, for the soil
but what of the hungry spider
that camps out, web weaves, then gargoyles

isn't her life worth something more too
these rains, we need and need them not
-- or the worm that braved the weather
to cocoon inside the rose knot

won't the rain its life's joy subdue
bringing woe, hard to subjugate
these rains, we need and need them not
for their thought of life is not death

but death's what they face after all
who's to shield them-- answer me that
darn the rain, their lives destroyeth
these rains, we need and need them not

Written for WordPress January 7th Bloganuary prompt to write a short story or poem about rain. I hope I’m not too late.

Quatrain

A quatrain is a poetic term employed in a poem, a verse with four lines. Quatrains are
popular in poetry for their compatibility with different rhyme schemes and rhythmic patterns.

The rhyme scheme I chose is ABCB, making the poem a ballad quatrain of four stanzas
or an EightSyllable Line Quatrain.

Read more about quatrains from the Poetry Foundation’s Glossary of Poetic Terms.

Thanks for reading my poem today.

Thoughtful, well-written poem, Selma. With many events in nature and in life, there are winners and losers. If we are among the lucky ones, we need to be thankful and extend empathy and compassion to those adversely affected. <3 Charming photos!

My relationship with rain is an ambiguous one too Selma! I love how this poem makes me think about rain beyond its effect on myself.

Thanks for stopping. Comments mean the world to me. Won't you please leave one?
