Because some days still feel like September…
replete from her last dalliance September bowed to October who at crown-ceding turned nobler with hand on chest, vowed competence cheers, said ochre-month with finesse September, laughter-prone, stepped back in her hair hung loose cryptic sacks of dainty feathers-- lucky charm to embolden and keep her warm stellar memories, happy acts * vibrant young lass now enfeebled September bowed and ceded crown October took it sitting down pressed her hand to chest, emboldened cheers said October delighted smile waned, September stepped aside ran she to Gust to bump a ride goodbye, the duo headed south festive songs spilled forth from their mouths cryptic exchange, but no one cried ** © selma
The Espinela is a Spanish poetic form with two stanzas and four end rhymes
across 10 lines. It’s named after poet Vincente Espinel, who is credited with
inventing it.
First stanza, four lines.
Second stanza, six lines.
Eight syllables per line.
Rhyme scheme is abba/accddc.
This poem is a nudge to September to pack up and go already. Sorry, I want
the whole of October to feel like October…
Note: This post first appeared for the Sunday prompt word at the Ragtag Community
where the word was cryptic, and it prompted my first (double) Espinela. I haven’t
written another one since 2021.
Thanks for reading. Blessings for your weekend.

Hi Selma, this is a splendid poem. We have a heat wave here.
Heat! Oh my. Just what our Southern friends need.
But where are you, Robbie?
Where in Northern hemisphere?
I want October to be October. We’ll get there… blessings.
Some months just do not want to depart…while others leave before we are ready. (K)
Beautiful imagery of words, Selma. Thanks for sharing this form with us
💗 glad you enjoyed 😉

i love this. i suppose we are at that point where we try to hold on to summer but there is a beauty in autumn that we yearn to experience but have to make the tradeoff for.
also, congratulations on your book. i know that writing and publishing a literary work is time consuming but the reward of knowing it resonated with people like myself must make it all worthwhile!
Thanks for this lovely comment. Who am I talking to 😂
These Anonymous comments are on the rise… wish they’d fix this glitch.
Bless YOU. 💗
A lovely, vivid poem, Selma. <3 Welcome to "October's bright, blue weather!" Goodbye to the heat and abundant rain.
Happy to know all is good over there. 💗 🤗
Cheryl, did I already tell you? A friendly FYI: I’ll be on a brief hiatus—Not sure for how long. I’ve been on the go for a while and now find the need to recharge: Regroup with my little self.
(And with the onset of another birthday, the need is strong)
But “I’ll be back!”
Will be doing more reading.
See you around sweet Cheryl. The moment I receive the book from Amazon I’ll place my review. Count on it 💕 ✍🏽 👏🏽
Have a good break, Selma. I am absolutely sure you need it! Thank you for all you have done for me! <3
