A Couple of Things Are Broken, But Many More Are Working Perfectly

ONE- The photos I snap on my iPhone take up so much space–they show as
12 MP – 4032 x 3024 – 2.6 MB
And you and I know that WordPress requires the size to be much smaller.
I cannot resize photos on iPhone so I do so on my HP laptop. It’s tedious:
finding and resizing is excruciating and time-consuming. But I do it.

But lately, *crickets!* Photos, all taken on my phone, don’t get synced.
They’re not in my files!!! WTH?
And in the event they get synced sometimes my computer doesn’t let me
open them to resize/rename. What a bore! A waste of time. Angering!

How do I fix this? I’ve asked Google, but nothing sends me relief. Is anyone else
going through this right now? Give me pointers, please. Talk to me as if I were 6.
Perhaps I’m not asking Google the right questions?!

I’m in the gutter
and cannot see the stars–
send help asap, please!

TWO- The subscribe forms viewed as widgets on the top right side of the website
seem broken. I’m not getting notified when someone stops long enough to fill out
email addresses. It angers me just as much as what’s happening with photos.

The blog post subscription is easy. Find me in the Reader, tap the FOLLOW
key, and voil’a, done! Thanks so much, my darlings.

Then the newsletter sign-up. Sheesh:

The newsletter is tricky, I’m not using the WP newsletter, I tried, but didn’t like it.
I use Mailchimp for that. But since its Intuit purchase, Mailchimp has changed and
I cannot keep up.

It appears that the link is broken–I wondered about that because I’ve had a very dry
spell–if you’ve attempted it, thank you. But you should receive an acknowledgment
after you subscribe. A thank you, a welcome message, and a free story?

And on my end, a notice that someone signed up. It’s been a long time since I
received one of those.

So I’ll appeal to your kind side and ask that you please use this sign-up form
instead, while I…

TRY TO FIX that broken link… Sorry about the trouble. Thank you so much. Blessings.

I don’t know why this is happening, Selma. I am not tech savvy enough. There must be apps on the Apple App Store that allow you to edit your images. Those could be of some help, but it’s probably best to figure out why your syncing, etc isn’t working properly.

    1. Selma Martin

Thanks, Tanmay. There’s never a good time for these setbacks, but for sure right now is not a good time. And its frustrating for everyone, I’m sure. I do not know how to proceed. The large photos have no problem going from my phone to instagram, IG adjusts them. So sometimes in my WP posts, I add the IG links to view the photos. But not everyone is on IG so that’s unfair to them. It’s a waste of time. Ongoing since september… Thanks for the comment. Bless you.

Tech problems..sheesh. as for iCloud sync issues..coukd be anything from poorly charged device, to a simple iCloud Connection refresh. But if it persists, may need someone above my level of ability.
And as Tanmay suggested, there are many apps out there for editing, and they’re quite intuitive and easy to use, and very good.

    1. Selma Martin

Thanks, Nigel. Lost, lost, lost in this techy world. Nothing is straightforward anymore. And if you don’t comply you are left behind. I don’t know how much longer I can persist in this environment. I don’t like it. Thanks for commenting.

Selma, I feel your pain. I have conversations with my nephews to learn new things daily. And my great nieces and nephews are on another level and they’re only ten yrs old. It’s already ahead of me. I should stick with analog. 🥴

  3. Cindy Georgakas

So sorry Selma!! Feeling your pain but don’t know how to help! 🥹

    1. Selma Martin

Thanks, Cindy. I don’t know how to do it any better. But It makes me feel less alone now that I told you. So, thanks.

      1. Cindy Georgakas

awwww I know that feeling well. Hugs my friend and good luck❣️

    1. Selma Martin

frustrating for sure. it stunts me. Thanks, Beth. xoxo

A lot of stuff is malfunctioning here. WP decides randomly to unfollow people from my side. Suddenly I realize that I’m not getting anything from some people in my reader and I find out that I’m not following them anymore!

    1. Selma Martin

WordPress makes me dizzy with all the changes. Why can’t they stop fixing things that aren’t broken. Or in my case, save me from the f o l l o w e r s who come with malicious intent. I don’t think they’ve ever unfollowed randomly people that follow me… But there was that one time when I noticed I wasn’t following you–and I didn’t do that!! How does that happen? They did unfollow me from your website. But I caught on and followed you anyway.
I also notice that the same person shows up again and again as new follower. The same person! That is scary…
Thanks for the comment, Sadje. Be well.

  5. rajkkhoja

Nice very interesting .I understand your feelings But.. ..

    1. Selma Martin

Thanks, Raj. Something is not working here. Oh well— on my walk today I left my phone at home. It’s useless to me now… 😤
      Blessings.

      1. rajkkhoja

        Most welcome, Selma!
        Iam so happy. .

Hi Selma, I’m not particularly techie but none of my stuff gets synced because I’ve overshot the allowed space and wont pay for more. Instead I pay Adobe and resize via Lightroom plus my iPhone is old so not camera worthy but some shots get airdropped to iPad or plugged straight into my mini computer box.
Yes lots of technical goofs – bigger fish buys little fish and changes the format. It tests patience by the day and evokes some unmentionable words but still we carry on, figuring it all out, getting round the malfunctions somehow.

Your newsletter idea is a welcome one – not selling just talking like penpals do though there ought to be a reply process and get dialogue going outside of these comments box – just a thought.
p.s. will give the sign up a try

    1. Anonymous

P.S. the confirmation link that follow sign up went into my junk mail which may account for drop in sign ups? I looked there and should now be on your mailing list 🙂

      1. Selma Martin

Replying: Hello Anonymous– Laura, is that you? If not, present yourself, pretty please.

          1. Selma Martin

It stole mine as well. A few responses on Comments show ME as Anonymous- “well, I neva!”

Thanks for joining my pen pal list. Once a month (except when I was sailing with the book. But my pen pals were on board, and approved of it) They are responsible for the outcome. Mostly word of mouth. They got In the Shadow Of Rainbows on Amazon’s coveted list. Yay!
Thanks for joining. ((Unsubscribe if you don’t like the vibes [please don’t 🙇🏽‍♀️]

            Blessings.

    2. Selma Martin

The newsletter functions that way. You hit reply and we talk one on one into oblivion 😆
And we do that exactly. Like pen pals. 👯 ✍🏽 sometimes I cannot keep up. Once a month keeps me busy and happy 😊
      Thanks so much ✅

        1. Selma Martin

Laura please tell which form you used? The widget on the right side of the pages OR the sign up form I added in the post? Thanks so much.

          1. Laura Bloomsbury

it must have been the link as I may be blind but can see no right side of page – its full page across the screen – do you have a 2 column template setup then?

            1. Selma Martin

It must have been the link.
              Infact im pretty sure.
              Bless you. Xoxox

              1. Laura Bloomsbury

No widget since no right hand maybe explains the reduction in sign ups you mentioned

                1. Selma Martin

Xo—I’ll try to fix it … tomorrow … 🙇🏽‍♀️ good night.

That’s such a bummer, Selma… I have had my share of technical issues too, but it seems less so than for some other people… Although – I’m not proactive enough to attempt having a newsletter, for example… My approach is to keep things as simple as possible to make glitches less likely – although that obviously doesn’t suit everyone!

    ~David

    1. Selma Martin

My pen pal newsletter is relatively small. And manageable. I don’t see it exploding anytime soon. Mailchimp on the other hand wants me to purchase ‘things’ —I have no need. Too small. You’ll be surprised how easy it is to set up except when links fall off and frustrations like that all because they want my money methinks. I like simple! Simple is me 😉
      Thanks David.
Many things are working well 🤗

  8. Cheryl, Gulf Coast Poet

How frustrating! I struggle with technology and am not any help, but I wish you the best, Selma!  <3

    1. Selma Martin

Thanks, dear Cheryl. I wish that too 😢 and fast, please.

On my walk today I left my phone at home. What’s the use if it’s not doing for me what I want it to do. Anyway…Blessings.

  9. memadtwo

Technology is a pain, I’m so sorry Selma.

I’m so untechnical I don’t even understand what you do with your photos. I download my phone photos on my computer with the same cord I use to charge it. And there they are, wherever I choose to save them (remembering the folder I’ve put them in is my own problem). Then I resize them if I’m going to post them.

As to newsletters…I couldn’t even imagine trying to deal with that. I admire your persistence. Good luck! (K)

    1. Selma Martin

Thanks so much, K. I should also opt to download photos manually.
I think I might just have to do that.
And not phone. I might need to give my digital camera a run for its money.
      Blessings.
The newsletter is fun except when it’s not … 😆

    Blessings on your endeavors, Selma!

I’m sorry to hear about the troubles you’ve been experiencing, Selma. I’m on android and have no idea what could be going on. Was there a recent IOS update? I do hope this fixes itself in some way

  12. Colleen M. Chesebro

OK, here’s a link that might help you with photos: https://blog.machighway.com/transferring-photos-how-to-publish-photos-from-iphone-to-wordpress/. Are you taking your photos in jpeg form instead of heic? If not, read this: https://www.imore.com/how-take-jpeg-pictures-ios-instead-heic.

What theme is this? I don’t see any widgets. You need to use the newsletter signup in a block format. OR share a link for the signup in each post. You can make that a “pattern” block and save it. That way, you can just add the block every time. Let me know if that works.

I use iphone and MAC. When used together, they have an airdrop feature that can’t be beat. To get around that, I used to email the photos to myself and then upload them to the post through the media upload on WordPress. Try that.

Once you get the photo uploaded, go into your media file on WP where the image is. Click it. Then WP gives you the option to edit the photo. You can crop the photo there.

Let me know if that helps. You can also edit your photo in iphone. Go into the iphone photos. Click edit at the top. You can crop the image there as well. Then, email it to yourself to upload to the WP media file. ❤️

Thanks for stopping. Comments mean the world to me. Won't you please leave one?
