Written for March 01, 2023, for W3 Poetry Prompt, which goes live on Wednesdays
at The Skeptic’s Kaddish. This fiction piece is my contribution to this week’s W3 Prompt #44: Wea’ve Written Weekly.
And this new week, I’m the PoW! How very cool, eh! And I got to decide the guidelines.
The Prompt:
- Write a ‘prose poem’ in the form of a news article you wish would come out
tomorrow (imagine it will come out tomorrow).
Rules:
- Format your ‘prose poem’ like breaking news
- Give it a bold attractive title; A beginning/middle/end
- Make it a Good News account of something that will benefit us all
- Use strong, positive VERBS
- Add enough detail to make it believable/relieve us of some stress
- Not short, but not too long **222 words long**
- Have fun. Happy Writing! **I had fun. Hope you did too**
BREAKING NEWS
From every corner of the world, our news hunters have reported that people are
waking up to excited retellings of having had peaceful slumbers. This is unprecedented,
say our hunters who have seen it all.
The hunters’ recollection goes back to the decades-long false bravado and inertia of the
masses; everyone tethered to a body that hardly could lift a leg in the light.
Hidden from sunbeams behind sunglasses, everyone lived twined in the tail end of
dreams that promised more. In their most lucid moments, they sat swatting at invisible
things and reciting mantras of a better tomorrow.
Stumbling around in dimly lit kitchens, they fed themselves into oblivion at desks
practically hidden under piles of papers from unfulfilling jobs and bills from
unenjoyable lifestyles. Forever wondering, how did this happen to them?
Unaware that everyone else lived just as dissatisfying and unhealthy, casually
meeting as sleepwalkers but forgetting the next moment.
But these are different people today. And the most fantastic thing is that everyone
interviewed gave the same account: A voice came to them and said, “Lift your foot.
Cross over.” And they all identify the speaker as Rumi.
A collective spiritual awakening– people speaking calmly, intelligently with each other
and unhurried, and getting a lot done. Who knew that a good night’s sleep could do this
to humans?
The amazing things, David does. Come join the fun.
Submissions are open until Monday, March 6, 10:00 AM (GMT+3)

What a wonderful news it would be if true
Sadje, your words always encourage me. Thanks so much, dear friend. Yes. Wouldn’t it be 😊 nice. Xoxo
Definitely! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Very nice.
Thank you, Raj. Blessings.
A good night’s sleep would do wonders for many of us Selma! may it come to pass. (K)
Yes, I figure a good night’s sleep is what we all need. All the anger we carry would dissipate and we would become human again. May it come to pass. Thanks for reading, K. Xoxo
It would be so wonderful if this great awakening could happen overnight! Lovely prose poem, Selma.
I am with you, Conny dear. Overnight, yes. Please. Glad you found it to your liking, dear one. Blessings.
What a wonderful thought – love how Rumi crept in too <3
Rumi. Yes. 😉 so happy to know you liked this idea. May it come to be. Thanks so much for your participation. Your transit transporters was stellar. And the line, “I’m ready Captain. Beam me up!” Gosh, loved it. Thanks for the fun. Stellar, you 👏
I love your story. I had a spiritual experience when I visited Rumi’s museum in Turkey. I was sick at the time and was filled with a wonderful golden light during the night. The most incredible peace infused my being. In the morning I felt a lot better and recovered from my sickness quickly. I truly believe Rumi’s energy does wake up a lot of people. The woman I was travelling with at the time had a profound spiritual awakening there too.
Suzanne, you visited? How amazing is that! And you had such encounter with the poet? His presence is undeniably what you felt and fixed you. So see, his CAN happen overnight. So happy you shared this with me. Spiritual awakening: not fantasy!
And thanks for joining in and writing to the prompt. AI… a baffling reality. Thank you. Blessing you. 😘
Thanks Selma. Yes Rumi’s presence came through strongly for me and my travelling companion. I still remember that feeling of being held in beautiful golden light when I was feeling ill.
This is a beautiful prose poem, Selma, and it would be wonderful if the ending were true. 💞
😜 wouldn’t it be lovely?! These are the kinds of gliders I want to send out to the universe. For all mankind.
Thanks for honoring me with a read. Blessings on your new week. Xoxo
Wishing you the same, Selma. 💕🌻
How delightful and uplifting this idea. 🙂 I really like how you’ve presented this here – and the small details are wonderful – they paint a “true to life” reality, while keeping us tethered in the dream-clouds. And yes, wouldn’t it be nice if were true?
Wildchild, how precious of you to catch his one. And it pleases me to know you enjoyed the reality aspect: one foot here, one there. Would it be wonderful if… thanks for this lovely response. Xoxo
What a wonderful post!
Thanks, Belladonna. Happy to know you enjoyed it. Blessing you. Xoxo
We could all become a ruminative rumi-nation 😉🌹
You are so right. A ruminative rumination of woken souls. That’s it. 😉 so cool of you to plant that idea. Love it. And thanks so much for writing to the prompt. Great work! TYSVM. blessing. I wish you Miracles.
💗
What an excellent piece, Selma. I really enjoyed every word of it. You have done this so cleverly so that it’s very appealing and intriguing at the same time. As some of your other readers mentioned, I liked the fact that this included an appearance from Rumi. And a good night’s sleep makes most people feel better and more refreshed in the morning. Who knows what tomorrow is going to bring for any of us? Xx 💖
😜 yes, it had to be Master Rumi! And wouldn’t a good night’s sleep be so beneficial for humanity? Just imagine! Thanks for honoring me with a read and comment. I bless you and wish you miracles, Ellie. Be on the lookout. They’re the small kind. Get yours! xoxo
I relate to this all to strongly, Selma! My internal clock is all out of whack! <3

Drink a glass of water and you’ll feel renewed, friend. I know what I’m telling you *wink* xoxo
“Who knew that a good night’s sleep could do this to humans?” Indeed! We need activity and rest. We can’t have one without the other. Well penned.
The lovely benefits of a good night of honest and goodness sleep. Thanks Bridgette. Blessings.
