Mezzaluna, Mezzaluna, Mezza Luna: Haibun Monday #dVerse

This post is written for dVerse where Frank J. Tassone is hosting Haibun Monday. This week, we blend prose-poetry and haiku to fashion that hybrid form called haibun.

Frank questions, “why should we care about the half-moon?” And reasons with us, “Well, what phase of the moon better exemplifies change? The moon’s appearance expands and contracts—waxes and wanes—as it orbits earth. The half-moon represents this journey either way: whether progressing from a new or full moon toward the opposite phase. Mezza Luna embodies transformation, just like this unique time of year.”

Yup, the best reason for a topic that never oldens. Thanks so much.

And in the garde manger of Mezzaluna Restaurant, the pantry chef was happily
chopping the toasted walnuts, flat-leaf parsley, fresh mint, garlic clove, and lemon
peel with the mezzaluna knife for the gremolata topping. The slow-roasted salmon
everyone came to enjoy was nothing without this kitchen staple that enriched

anything it garnished, animating any palate. Moons in advance and moons into the
future, Mezzaluna was fully booked for the mezza luna lovers’ night.

He he. I had to try. I knew a kitchen knife used by salad chefs was called mezzaluna so I had to include that. 🙃 Used what I knew. Thanks so much for the support, Sadje. Appreciate you. Xoxo

I know 🙈 That came out — it’s the knife that took me there and then brought the prompt full circle. Xoxo

terroir – a new word for me. A good meal that I don’t have to cook is always good.
With the price of eggs going down – I finally made an ‘egg pie’ for lunch. Sort of a Quiche, but I use the whole egg not just the whites. Store bought pie crust and what ever I have at hand… this time scallions, broccoli, cheddar and swiss cheeses. And some spices. I am a simple cook… not a chef. 🙂
