Are you satisfied with being born in this particular ‘period?’ If not, when would you consider a ‘better time?’ Here’s a look at what one of the most outstanding American Scholars has to say on the subject. Open your heart to embrace the idea and by the end of this post, I hope you see why you have good reasons to celebrate today.
“If there is any period one would desire to be born in, ⎯ is it not the age of Revolution;
when the old and the new stand side by side,
and admit of being compared;
when the energies of all men are searched by fear and by hope;
when the historic glories of the old can be compensated by the rich possibilities of the new era?
This time, like all times, is a very good one, if we but know what to do with it.” — Ralph Waldo Emerson Quote
In short, Master Emerson starts by saying that the age of Revolution ought to be the most desired time to be born.
And, aren’t we the lucky ones!
Before I go on, I need to state here that I’m not, in any way, trying to make light of what’s happening in our world today; specifically, the situation with the Corona Virus that continues to claim lives across borders.
We are, collectively, in a revolution. It’s hard to understand the tactics and strategies best suited to fight against the enemy.
But, that aside — and it makes me sad to say that as living in Asia where the outbreak ‘seems’ to have originated, I feel vulnerable. Still, I ask that together we set that aside for a while. Of that, I want to say that while I’m in fear of contracting the virus, I have hope ‘we’ are close to the end of this nightmare.
…when the energies of all men are searched by fear and by hope…
We live in the best times of all. And it is a fact! One, that often feels so explosive to this Candy-Writer.
Yes, there’s a lot of hurt in our world, but please, let’s never forget — a lot of good too. It’s there if we dare look for it. I know you know what I mean.
And let’s not forget– we are in the age of technology!
I must confess that I have been a colossal resister and resistor of all this technology that I felt was coming between our humanness. I stood firm against technology, and in so doing, I prevented the benefits to pass into me. What that boils down to is resistance mired in fear.
Fear of not being smart enough to follow along; of not being willing to give up on the ways I’d been doing things.
Fear, the projected image of fear–it’s debilitating. I was struggling big time with it until I changed my mind about what technology was doing to me. Like I’m sure you know, we need to rise to the challenge and change our triggers to point us in a different direction. I did with the help of inspirational material, and here’s how the narrative changed for me:
Sometimes, as in the best of times, untangling from the vestige of fear needs to be replaced by purpose. And my dear reader, I’m so excited to tell you that I have finally confronted what stunted me. And here’s what I will do with it.
I’m done being so fearful.
Oh, sure, this will come with common sense and more listening to solid advice from those who know better. Sheesh, I’m much too old and still too immature, to think I can do it alone. I. Need. You.
I offer praise to the state of technology. I bow deeply in admiration to all the human stories of generosity that are the cornerstones of my ordinary life.
These, to me, are the best reason to celebrate.
And humble as they might seem to you, I’ll add my other reasons:
- We are in a new year.
- I’m blessed with amazing tech-savvy friends who epitomize goodness and selflessness.
- I have the best group of Writer-friends who are supportive and reliable.
- Miracles are for real.
- As of this post, I have a new and functioning website.
- I’m smarter than I was last year.
- And then, there’s You, the readers who support me.
Thank You.

By the end of the quote, Master Emerson affirms:
Like all times, this time is a very good one,
if we but know what to do with it.
What are you going to do with the best of times you’re living in?
You too have very good reasons to celebrate. Give it a think and if you feel like it, share so that I can celebrate with you.

I have seen much in the years I have been given, in the time I have been placed. Would I want to be born during any other time? I’ve asked myself that question before. No, I think not. In happy times, during time of strife, and in deep sadness, I have always known that where I am is where I am meant to be in this moment at this time in the universe.
And yes, dear Selma, we can all support one another to tackle the technology. More importantly, I gladly support you and walk beside you as you make miracles through your words and your wisdom.
With gratitude…
That bright star you see shining in the night sky mirrors the way I shine when I receive comments like these. Thanks so much. Let’s walk together. We want the same thing, and joining forces makes us stronger to carry on. Be well, dear friend. I bless you.
