Day 29: NaPoWriMo 2024–Inside Love Incandescent

Day Twenty-Nine on APRIL 29, 2024

Happy twenty-ninth day of NaPoWriMo/GloPoWriMo, everyone.

We have two featured participants today: Frank Bekker, who brings us a sweet
sijo about a cat, and Brittany Mishra, whose poem in response to Day 28’s sijo
prompt explores the concept of value.

Today’s daily resource is Poems for These Hours, an Instagram account that shares
new poems regularly.

And now for our optional prompt. If you’ve been paying attention to pop-music
news over the past couple of weeks, you may know that Taylor Swift has released
a new double album titled “The Tortured Poets Department.” In recognition of this
occasion, Merriam-Webster put together a list of ten words from Taylor Swift songs.
We hope you don’t find this too torturous yourself, but we’d like to challenge you to
select one these words, and write a poem that uses the word as its title.

Happy writing!

Inside Love Incandescent

darling dove
I shall sing a lullaby;
the moon mothers from above

brave and bold
may you waft o’er still waters
I commend you to His hold

when night wilts,
welcome the warmth of morning
brimmed with brains– build or bequeath

the crescent
may it care and conserve you–
inside love incandescent

Thanks, Val…

  • An Irish form consisting of tercets (3-line stanzas) of any number.
It is syllabic with 3/7/7 syllables per stanza and a rhyme scheme
where the 1st and 3rd lines of a stanza rhyme.
Heavy alliteration is expected with all 3 lines within a stanza.
You may find inspiration in Lies versus Truth…

Thanks from the bottom of my heart for being here as I worked on these first drafts.
It wouldn’t have been the same without you.
THANKS AGAIN, MAUREEN–YOU ROCK!
God willing, I’ll see you all here again next year.
