Hotel de los corazones rotos–The hotel of broken hearts
Hello, my precious Readers. I’m so happy you’re here. Also grateful to J. Re
Crivello, editor-in-chief of Gobblers & Masticadores, Barcelona, Spain, and
The Hotel of Broken Hearts, for publishing my longish poem in his lovely
online literary magazine.
“No one who achieves success does so without
the help of others. The wise and confident
acknowledge this help with gratitude.”
~ Alfred North Whitehead
Here’s an excerpt of today’s poem:
ADA'S MONOLOGUE I saw you doing it again today, Ma– that clamming you do with your lips whenever I questioned you about Pa's whereabouts. I'm no longer surprised. All those times, so long ago--I always knew. The scent of fresh-cut grass that wafted from Pa's foamy shaving lotion was always missing on those mornings. Ma, you never knew, but it was that scent that woke me up mornings: I'd walk to the door ledge of the bedroom you shared with Pa and find him standing with his long legs sprawled open, bent at the waist over the basin of water, and looking into the small oval mirror attached to the furniture. "Too dainty for a man," Tate once whispered to me about that furniture, "too much like a lady sort of thing." And Tate was right...
Dear Readers, I ask that you follow this link to read the rest of the monologue.
This Monologue is “spoken by” a person already buried.
Mine’s not as long as Jonathan Swift Somers’, The Spooniad. His is 2,119 words long
and can be found at the end of the exquisite “Return to Spoon River,” after Edgar Lee
Masters’ eminently creepy 1915 book Spoon River Anthology. A-ma-zing!
Please read my scary-ish poem at Hotel.
Thanks so sincerely.
I bless you and wish you a meritorious Merry November.
