nothing as intimate as seeing
my name,
handwritten on the face
and the stamp–
licked,
straight from your lips
then sent flying across the sky
when tenderly I snip off
the tip of
the airmail paper
I feel you close
in your handwriting
divine

What a fantastic prompt from De Jackson, aka WhimsyGizmo hosting at dVerse for
Quadrille Monday, papered poems. I was only too happy to add a short one for a change (I’ve been busy writing long ones of late). And chose to add my take on receiving airmail letters.
I love writing and sending out too, and that’s precisely the joy-well behind the monthly pen-pal newsletters I send to my intimate subscribers. *wink*
My husband –um well, before he was my husband– and I had a lovely long-distance
relationship. It was still a time of patience, and that beautiful art of letter writing made it all a worthy romantic time I savor. We still have the letters.
Thanks for reading, my friends. xo

Oh, Selma! How beautifully you have evoked the romance of letters! Love this.❤️
So pleased to know you enjoyed it. Thanks 💗 😘
This is beautiful. I felt the ties between you and your husband.
What a lovely day it is when I see you dropped by for a visit. Thanks so much, Diane. Stay sweet. Xo 💗
How beautiful, Selma. I LOVE mail, and I love this!
Aww, I always knew others loved sending and receiving snail mail too. Glad you enjoyed, De. Lovely prompt. Thanks 💗
I agree that there is something very special about handwritten love letters! ❤️
Something special indeed. I bless you.
Hand written letters are always so special and I really loved your take on it, I can picture what it must’ve been like with your husband, the love and bond you must share is so vivid in this poem. Lots of love to you dear Selma. ❤️🌸
Thanks, dear Daphny. Glad you read. xoxo 💗
You’re welcome Selma! ❣️
There’s still nothing like a letter, and this one seems pretty special. Well done.
Nothing like it, indeed. And to realize they flew over the pacific…
Thanks for appreciating this one, D. I bless you. xo
Really sumptuous…
Be safe, Ain. Sending a choir of angels to watch over you and the whole lovely country of Ukraine. I bless you.
Love letters! Do they even exist today I wonder. I still have all my husbands love letters that he wrote to me over 50yrs ago! After we are gone I’m sure our children will find them quite amusing if not embarrassing! Hehe…
50 years. Wow. That’s already spectacular. Yes, your children will marvel at it. What great lesson. 💗
A lovely poem, Selma. Letter writing is such a lost art. Those rare ones that travel through the mail these days from friends and family far away are treasures.
Real treasures, they are. Only in these two+ years of COVID the mail has been delayed. The Christmas Cards I intended to send in 2020 never took off. Tried again in 2021. No can do! WTH?!
Some countries still have restrictions in what to allow through their postal system.
Belize is shut to mail from Japan. 🤦🏻♀️
Thanks for the comment, D. Blessings. xo
I’m holding on to love letters my parents wrote each other while they were engaged and my father was in the Navy.
Aww. How very sweet. Xoxo 🤔

what a lovely memory, and such treasured letters, nice one Selma!
Thanks for reading, Kate. Much appreciate you xoxo
likewise!
You capture the exquisite thrill of receiving a letter <3
Glad you felt that. I appreciate you reading and commenting. All the best. xo

Beautiful poem, Selma, I love the whole sentiment. I think it’s romantic and the digital word could never replace the physical love letter. Especially if it’s travelled a great distance. Makes me think of think of all those messages in bottles that people have sometimes sent that never reached anyone. Airmail is definitely a better choice 🙂
beautiful, Selma!

Agreed about hand written letters. Too bad some ppl don’t know the warmth they hold. Hopefully it will be revived XoXo. Thanks for reading.
