Look around, kid. In less than two hours, the world will upgrade. The old one is broken-- it always has been It placed too much importance on contests and outward advancement depleting us of needed life-force to advance us It gave confusing and objectifying messages about what our bodies were supposed to look like It made us ashamed of what our bodies became-- made us start to disassociate when wonderful we already were It put too much value on vanity, moxies, and bragging provided almost no outlets for vulnerabilities and foibles It made us snare at one another's whimsy, made us capricious, cold, and vagarious-- numb to real human emotions It glamorized the availability of the damn easy-button, introduced us to gadgets and mind-altering drugs that offered instant gratification and the illusions of calm It preached that boys don't cry, boys don't feel; that girls conform and obey. As if! It encouraged the open-at-all-hours mindset; doing more at the expense of sleep. How in the world could sleep be optional? We, intelligent, modern people with smartphones, private jets, and our important, busy lives– got tricked into believing in a future-less world, tricked into clinging on to a made-up existence That was a world that complained too much, stockpiled too much, spoke from imagined altitudes of grandeur, and stepped over those less fortunate Look around, kid. In less than two hours, the world will upgrade. That old world is broken-- upended, derailed Go. Gather your loved ones this upgrade will advance us, but only if we switch on a new perspective One that transmits a more accurate story of a world with equal rights. One that unites our collective spirits, by the same story of love for the earth and brethren One where we spread a message of hope for our children, for our homes because what we're sacrificing today are things for the sake of our tomorrows Look around, kid. In less than two hours, the world will upgrade. From that old world that is broken-- grace, life-force, hope-- inner peace will descend. *** © 2021 selmamartin.com
… in two hours– where will you be?
Hello friends, I’ve been doing a lot of reading on WordPress and following along where
writing prompts call to me. Get Your Act Together, written by Fandango on his fivedotoh.com website, is one more well of inspiration to me. In this post, I follow along and add my voice to other word prompts where I’m happy to participate.
At play today are these gems: Your Daily Word Prompt (moxie), The Daily Spur (wonderful), Fandango’s One-Word Challenge (whimsical), MMA Storytime (altitude), Ragtag Daily Prompt (contest), and Word of the Day Challenge (optional).
Fandango gave me the idea of doing flashbacks of old posts. What a stellar idea! Thank you kindly, Fandango. You rock. I invite you, my readers, to click on any and all the word links(on the poem) that will take you to the sites I honor today. Thank you, all.
The prose I present is of recycled words of an essay published on my blog a year ago– a post that attracted but ONE reader. Can’t Wait for Life To Return To The Way It Was. So if you find yourself with extra time in your hands, please click on the link to read the original post. Much obliged.
