the guests, crass and dull
huddle over the ashtray
lips puffed, beguiling
I whirl—it’s a fun party
dancing among tall flowers

Aww Lauren. Thanks for dancing with me among the flowers then. So happy. Bless you.
Selma, I like the contrast between smokers huddling around an ashtray and dancing around in the party. Good words to find synonyms of.
Happy you liked the contrast of the parts and the synonyms too. Bless you.
I am not sure why one year I was invited to a party by a girl I didn’t really know. While they all huddled somewhere else – I danced for the adults… perhaps they just had pity on me, but at least they made me feel welcome.
Dancing among flowers is a delightful escape from adults and their smoke – that was the way it was…
Dancing. That is just lovely Jules. Bet you had more fun than they did, huddled somewhere. Bless you. Thanks for reading and commenting. 🤗
Sometimes parents put you into situations where you should never have been. But somehow ‘we’ manage to come out with something positive… if we can… Thanks.
An awesome tanka, Selma. Fun and layered. You know, for some reason I’ve always thought you lived in Japan.
Hey Jude. I haven’t moved continents—I’m STILL in Japan 🤣
And I’ll be here forever. ♾️ 😘
Thanks for enjoying the tanka. Bless you
