Searching For Symbolism In The Rains

these rains, we need and need them not
for the rose, the corn, for the soil
but what of the hungry spider
that camped out, weaved, then absconded

isn't her life worth something more too
these rains, we need and need them not
--or the worm that braved the weather
to take shelter inside the rose

won't the rain his life's joy subdue
bringing hell, hard to overcome
these rains, we need and need them not
for their thought of life is not death

but death's what they face after all
who's to shelter them--tell me who
darn the rain, their lives destroyer
these rains, we need and need them not

Sometimes, a spark ignites and leads one to the strangest of places.
This little ditty, told as a quatern poem today, got inspiration from a
William Blake poem that came to mind:

The Fly
William Blake - 1757-1827

Little fly,
Thy summer’s play
My thoughtless hand
Has brushed away.
Am not I
A fly like thee?
Or art not thou
A man like me?
For I dance
And drink and sing,
Till some blind hand
Shall brush my wing.
If thought is life
And strength and breath,
And the want
Of thought is death,
Then am I
A happy fly,
If I live,
Or if I die.

I also happen to feel depressed about the havoc the rains
are causing worldwide. Landslides. Flooding.
Lives have been lost.

These rains, we need them but need them not!

I think that the pros are more than the cons.

Yes. And thankfully so. It’s survival of the fittest. Xo

        Exactly right my friend 💖

    1. Selma Martin

Yeah, sometimes my mind goes in that direction. For the underdog. Hugs. Thanks, Destiny.

I am touched by your poem. Caring and loving for the minuscule creature. ‘We Need or Need Them Not’ so true it is.

  3. VJ

    So well penned, Selma.

    1. Selma Martin

Thanks VJ. Hope you’re not getting too much nor too little rain. Stay cool.

Welcome Selma. Raiin today, but the heat will persist I think.

        1. Selma Martin

The pavement will be cooler so it might make a difference. (I hope)
          Stay cool

  4. Interesting, Selma. We never get enough rain here and last year was worse than usual. I love rain as a result.

    1. Selma Martin

I hope the rain situation gets better for everyone. Stay cool.

Nicely written. The weather is such a double edged sword.

    1. Selma Martin

Unreliable weather conditions. Thanks for the comment dear one. Blessings.

oh such a lovely poem of caring and sharing for our critters including ourselves, Selma.. every little creature deems love❣️

    1. Selma Martin

Everyone deserves our attention and care.

And since your return from your recent vacay I’ve been wanting to say to you: 🪇 Shake my Maracas 🪇 🫨 Cindy. Bee cool. 😎

Shakin and a baking everyday.. that’s how we roll, Selma💕

  7. Amazing, Selma! There was a song I taught our Children’s Choir which the kids loved. The chorus after each verse went like this: “Whatsoever you do to the least of my people, that you do unto me.” Comparing critters to people may be a stretch but I’m sure you see where I’m coming from. Absolutely awesome write, amica mia! ♡

I see just what you mean. And I know that song. Learned it as a child. I feel for the little guys. Thanks for reading and commenting.

May all those who need assistance for and from weather events be aided.

Here there is a saying that the corn should be knee high by the fouth of July… but alas some seem dwarfted.
It is an odd bit to need something and then get too much of it…

Do feel better that good souls will unite to help any and all in need. Even the distant prayer helps. That I strongly believe.

Beautiful poem, Selma! Where I live in Arizona, we’re begging for a few drops of rain. Have a great day!

No rain is just as bad for all of us big and small creatures. I hope you get rain soon.

Thanks for stopping. Comments mean the world to me. Won't you please leave one?
