Seahorses’ Monogamous Heart #WritePhoto

“With a head like a horse, a tail like a monkey,
and a pouch like a kangaroo, the seahorse acts
like a chameleon, changing color to ward off danger,
or to show that he and his mate are a lifelong pair.”

Write Photo Prompt for June 7th. All rights KL Caley

In the morning, a visit
 to remind him
that she cares

promenading, pirouetting,
entertainment for
pregnant dad

for the fry
a cradle song
about the ocean
and its lessons

mama can’t wait
until he’s nimble
to go hitchhiking,
tails curled together

Aren’t seahorses graceful and lovely? They sure are, but they’re facing
risk of extinction– a sad reality.
This little seahorse captured my fancy, so I wrote this for New2Writing, KL Caley.
Thanks for the lovely photo prompt and for having me. I hope you liked the poem.

Cute. I’ve always found it fascinating that the dad incubates the seahorse fry (babies) in his brood pouch. I’m sure he’s the wiser for it.

So when I set to write for this prompt, I could not think of anything more beautiful
to talk about but the pregnant dad and how the mama must feel.

There are photos of pregnant seahorses on Google search. Videos of the birth too. Watch to your heart’s content and smile.

I think I’d forgotten that male seahorses can get pregnant. What a mystical, adorable creature, we mustn’t let them go extinct! Thanks for sharing!! 💝

Adorable creatures, and a wonderful poem to honour them 😊

What a beautiful, sensitive and delightful poem, my friend. I love seahorses – they’ve always fascinated me. I think they (and also sea dragons) are the only little creatures where the male carries the babies. The poem is a wonderful way of describing or imagining the mother seahorse’s feelings. It is awful, though, that they, along with many other species in our world, are gradually becoming extinct. We have lost so many different animals partly due to climate change and for sea creatures and fish through overfishing. Thank you for sharing this lovely poem and post. Xxx 💝❣💖

While I never had the ‘kits’ as a child I remember the ads for ‘sea-monkeys’ which I believe were sort of grow your own sea-horses.

I think once on a vacation one of my grandchildren found a sea-horse and wanted to take it home. I made them put it back in the ocean.
I’m one for tossing live star fish back into the sea as well.

Nature is amazing. I’ve always wondered if human males could take turns…if they’d think twice about telling women what they can and cannot do… in regards to their bodies.

I’ve always loved them Selma and they are soooo cute. Sad that they are at risk of extinction. I love your poem! Wow love the dad carries the babies… next time around I’m marrying a seahorse.. 😂 Actually, I loved pregnancy and birth! 💖
