When I’d stand on the roof of the ruin
in Santa Rita, starkly I’d see your
house in the distance; the corroded roof
that got a polished new sheet with every
repair work done. It shone–that zinc sheet did!
The last time it was fixed, the new sheet went
right over your room. I remember us
playing, jumping on your bed, throwing your
brother’s bushwork boots to the ceiling, and
dodging when they jolted back on our heads.
Rain and thunder poured hard outdoors; it rained
boots inside your room. And then, rain found its
way in and pooled on your bed. Oh, how we
panicked to get your folks to look but said
nothing of the boots cracking the ceiling.
Now, when I’m at Santa Rita, I see
your brother’s boots. Strange how the view has changed.

“For the visually challenged reader, this image shows a pair of hiking boots suspended
in the air. They both are facing in different directions and it seems as if they are worn
on feet attached to invisible legs
Waiting for your responses.“
