Pontic Sea: No Goodbyes, Only Cosmic See You Later

when I seek your wisdom
for the pressures that overwhelm me

you make me scream until
my vocal cords lacerated be

oddly, the exercise
relieves my existential crises

and I gain coherence
for having unloaded my angst so

there exist no goodbyes,
or tears — just cosmic see-you-later

Pontic Sea, my shepherd,
my guide, renew me through the tempests

This poem is a rib off of a larger poem that I hope to publish at a future date. In the
meantime, this shortened version was first published as a prompt response about
goodbyes at The Brain is a Noodle on Medium in August. Hope you enjoyed it.

The Sea is my go-to place, the one place that is more than a place. I’m blessed that
I’m a walking distance from the sea and visit it often. But when I cannot get my feet
to take me, I conjure it, and I am “there.”

I hope you have a similar “place” to renew your soul when yours need renewing.

I wish you all the loveliness you deserve in this season. May all your dreams come to
be, and you always see the silver lining in life.

Please know that the footsteps you leave in the sand are tattooed forever in the
cosmos, so that another human, seeing it, shall take heart again. I bless you and am so
happy to be sharing this planet with you.

A great place to visit or conjure up when you can’t make it all the way.

What a beautiful, soothing piece, Selma. The sea is indeed a calming destination and a favorite of mine, as well as the mountains. My husband and I resonate with the famous quote by John Muir, “The mountains are calling and I must go.”
Wishing you a lovely weekend! ❤️
