Patchworking Some Prose: Who Is Heathen Here?

All afternoon it rained, then
We were ready to defend the land

Such power came down from the clouds
And the people against those

On a yellow thread,
Who wanted what was not theirs to take

As authoritative as God is supposed to be
We were called heathen

When it hit the tree, her body opened forever
But who is heathen here?

Mary Oliver: New Poems (1991-1992). Rain: pg.3
Joy Harjo: An American Sunrise. Song 3. Soldiers: pg.39

Meeting The Bar at dVerse with a lovely patchwork prose prompt hosted by Laura. I’m
wowed and will say no more. Because how else was this supposed to go with words
from such literary geniuses?

Thanks, Laura, and all who read. I bless you and wish you miracles.

🙃 this one is incorrect as I Failed with the rules. Anyway. I love how it came out. It will stay. Thanks, xo

Breaking the rules in this case was still great imagery! I love that you play!❤️

You might think you can’t fail by choosing these two great poets, but it’s not so easy as you have made it look, Selma! I’ve written a cento, or two, and I can say that choosing the right lines and pairing them, so as to create a nice flow, isn’t an easy task. You’ve succeeded wonderfully!

You have encouraged me tremendously with this comment, dear Conny. Thanks so much. I’ll be visiting you shortly. Stay as you are. I bless you. ((Hugs))
