Mystery, Anyone? Lies That Bind by Krissy Baccaro: Delicious!

Yet another serving– My review as seen on Amazon

Delicious!
I was drawn right into Lies That Bind by Krissy Baccaro from the get-go. It’s all right
there in Chapter One:
“the branches scratching feverishly against the glass/” — an impending storm.
“a flashlight and then a smaller light near the curtains/” — this stilled my heart too!
And then, the protagonist, Izzy, slides her hand to the side of the bed to find she sleeps
alone. Her husband was absent, but for the glass half full and the headache powder.
Untouched.

But then the “two crumpled packets, with edges torn…/” — so, did she or did she not
take her meds!? As you read, you’ll discover these meds are vital to the story.

And then she hears footsteps downstairs. Inside her house! This truncated me! Such a
great opening chapter for even a scaredy-cat like me!

Each chapter IS impactful, with sharp twists that create tension and urgency.

This is not my first encounter with Author Krissy Baccaro’s work; I’ve read and
reviewed this prolific mystery writer before: Buried Secrets; One Last Secret of the
Ella Perry Mystery Series.

Amazon sends me updates on new releases. And it’s my pleasure to read and
review Lies That Bind by Krissy Baccaro, for which I received an advanced copy in
exchange for an honest review.

This, Book 3 and Prequel to the Ella Perri Mystery Series, is yet another delicious
serving of mystery by this author.

The characters are believable and well drawn out; details are relevant, and the plot
rolls out smoothly with intrigue — a true page-turner.

I zoomed in on the compelling part of how women’s friendships are nourished through
hard times and how they sacrifice for each other’s sake. Izzy’s love for her boys kept
me rooting for her.

Her headache medicine: is conveniently dispensed through her husband’s orders to his
subordinates to keep Izzy out of the loop of what’s happening. That a husband would
do that is heartbreaking.

The book moves quickly with fitting descriptions and plenty of suspense and mystery.
And the end comes to a satisfactory ending.

I thoroughly enjoyed Lies That Bind by Krissy Baccaro from start to finish. And give this
novel a resounding 5-star rating.

***

For my lovely readers: Having read all three novels, Buried Secrets; One Last Secret,
and now Lies That Bind, I can say confidently that Author Krissy Baccaro knows how
to do mystery. With every novel, I relived emotions I encountered when reading Nancy
Drew– gosh, how long ago was that? Delicious!

Book Description:

Behind closed doors, it’s bad for the Perri family. And the masks they wear deceive
even the most perceptive eyes. Each of them—Sal and Isabella and sons, Franco and
Luca—harbors a secret. No one knows what they’re hiding…or what they’re capable of.

1930s pre-war Italy a young girl has gone missing from Chianlalea, a quaint fishing
village at the edge of the Tyrrhenian Sea. It’s eerily reminiscent of a similar incident
that happened to Isabella Perri when she was a child.

The missing girl’s body surfaces near the Perri’s marina. And when fingers point at Sal
because of his alleged mafia connections Isabella stands by him, refusing to accept the
gossip. And the warnings.

Frightful noises in the middle of the night. An intruder’s footsteps below. A second girl,
Gia, a friend of Franco and Luca, goes missing. The girl with the pretty smile who, only a
few days earlier, had been at their house. Discrepancies in the boys’ stories make them
suspect and Isabella starts to question everything she thought she knew.

Ominous notes beneath the door, the locked shed looming in the backyard, and
whispers of lies and deceit prove that Isabella and her family are no longer safe.
And as she peels back the layers of her small town, secrets of her family begin to
emerge. Secrets she didn’t know existed.

Still scared, but refusing to remain silent, Isabella vows to make things right, protect
her children, and save the next victim. But doing so will change all of their lives.

Forever.

The bummer today, as per Krissy’s email to me, is that Amazon removed my review… the gall! It was there, Early. I saw it as did Krissy. And then swoosh, out! Must be because I’m not in USA. And I used that magic link Krissy gave me. The frustrations of Amazon! I will need to repost.
