My year’s highlight and most significant achievement was my first time participating in National Poetry Writing Month in April. What a fantastic creative outlet that was. God willing, I intend to do it again next year.
And so to recap, and to express my gratitude to this art form I never knew was missing from my ordinary life, I wish to end the year by reposting a couple of my fave poems every Wednesday from now until the end of this blogging year. I hope you enjoy them.
If you should wake up tomorrow and find something amiss like a break on a promise to hang out, or, God forbid, your calls I diss don't cuss, find fault with God, or mither— the onus is on none if ever you awake tomorrow and find out that my life here is done we have so much we have not said, it seemed so much to take on yet but up till the present moment, we did things I'll never regret look not for me at the mall parking lot not in the parks we played hard not on the bench under our tree not in our friends' back yard but if tomorrow starts without me and there is nothing more to do but let go, know that I've carried you with me and you can always find me in your heart. *** © 2021 selmamartin.com
The Prompt on Day 4 of NaPoWriMo:
I love all the prompts so far. Do look this one over in its entirety if you have time. There’s a lot going on here. Thanks to the admin for the dedication.
Poetry often takes us to strange places – to feelings and actions that are hard to express except through the medium of a poem. To the "liminal," in other words – a place or sensation that exists at or on both sides of a boundary or threshold, neither one thing nor the other, but something betwixt and between. In honor of the always-becoming nature of poetry, I challenge you today to select a photograph from the perpetually disconcerting @SpaceLiminalBot, and write a poem inspired by one of these odd, in-transition spaces. No matter what neglected or eerie space you choose, I hope its oddness tugs at the place in your mind and heart where poems are made.
The photograph I chose — the empty sidewalk and empty lot — tugged at my heartstrings and put me in a contemplative mood. Thanks so much for taking me there with this prompt.
And to all my readers, thanks for reading and commenting. I wish you stress-free last days in the lovely month of November, full of gratitude and giving, and as always, I wish you miracles.

Beautiful, Selma. Both the photo and the poem are heart touching. 💞
Selma, wonderful poetry and it is fantastic that you had such a hugely positive experience in April. You are a natural poet and truly capture that ‘liminal’ element of the craft!
Annika. What wonderful words you gift me. Thanks for the encouragement.
Yes. I totally enjoyed my time there. And as far as I’m concerned, my soul saw it as a positive endeavor.
Glad I did that. Yay. Have you?
Be well, happy thanksgiving.
I hadn’t even seen anything about it and must admit I’d have been slightly daunted but up to the challenge! Great you found it a positive endeavour.
Thank you for your lovely wishes; no thanksgiving here in the U.K. but I’m looking forward to First Advent on Sunday!
Yup, Advent practically has a foot on the stairs already. Lovely time of the year for me. I cannot help but marvel at my childhood.
Be well, dear Annika. Happy holidays.
