Here-Spent Hours: In Poetry, In The Garden, And Anywhere

Poetry of awareness in pleasant moments

Photo by Mike Erskine on Unsplash

A thought whizzes through my thinker
Then stops like a thing surprised
I scratch my chin, blink in a recall —
That thought had come/left once, unrevised

Where did it go then, why now revisit
I do not know, but this I concur:
Deep inside, certainty implicit,
*I’ve met the Thing before

I blink again, resume my chore
Of tending to the flowers
A bee emerges, nectar-smeared
Then another, and yet another

I cannot tell when the Think departs
Or when I slink back to here-spent hours

I just know that on this day
I’m practicing peace for friends out yonder

“As I work on the garden
the garden works on me.”
~ The quote on Pic2 that inspired this post. Thanks, Mike.

ALSO, *Emily Dickinson — this line lent itself beautifully into this poem. And isn’t it
a splendid day when something like that happens? Methinkso! Hope you enjoyed it too.
Have a glorious day, wherever you are.

Hello, dear friends. I’ve been trying to post on the Medium platform after a long
hiatus. There I post new material and repost (cross-pollinate) here at
selmamartin a month later, sometimes under a new title.

Medium has evolved since I was active. If you’re unfamiliar with Medium and wish
to know more, ask, and I’ll share or swing over to this post (scroll to the bottom)
to read what I know.

This post first appeared in Weeds and Wildflowers Publication on Medium.
Feel free to visit it there with this free link.

Thanks for reading my words of encouragement.
Awareness of the pleasantness of the moment
makes for a day of here-spent hours.
Be the peace you’re wishing for.

(this extra link directly above, will take you to an essay on peace)

Be the change we all need as thoughts whizz
through your thinker. *wink*

Thanks for reading, have a great summer, and always notice those miracles.

Mischievous thoughts. They come when we least expect.
Hey, Deb, we lost a dear soul here on earth but have one more strong angel in heaven now. Olivia. I thought of you– from Australia — when I heard the news. RIP, Sandy… xoxo

I love the quote, Selma, and love the poem, too. It really brightened my evening. My dear Mum would have loved this – she was always in her element in her beautiful garden. She used to say she did all her best thinking out there. Your words reminded me of my lovely Mum a lot. Thank you for that. Xxx 🌹💛🌷

Aww, that my words did that, is the greatest compliment. Mum must have been a lovely human. No wonder you are so beautiful. Stay that way. Blessings on your summer.

You and I– yup. The universe knows what it’s doing. I bless you and your lovely soul. Stay sweet. xoxo

It certainly does, doesn’t it?!!! It’s so sweet….once I was deeply worried about a very dear one close to my heart. I thought they were in danger. I stood sobbing and asking God/The Universe to please keep them safe and if there was any karma that could harm them and if it was okay….to please just give it to me and let them pass. A few seconds later I heard the sweetest, most loving laughter and a voice somewhere inside of me said, “He is MY son. Don’t You think I know what I am doing?”. It was full of such LOVE and compassion that my knees literally gave way and I fell to the floor in relieved laughter. I try to remember that when I am afraid or stressed!!! Bless Your lovely Soul as well, dear Selma!!! Huge hugs!!! Rock On!!! ❤️❤️❤️
