This is my response to W3 Prompt #57: Wea’ve Written Weekly.
THE BIG WHEEL Huff and puff cut and burn relegate nature to artists— civilization comes at a price so fly high with flourish: onward, the dream upward, the road until inches short of the empyrean gates. Down go nondescript verdant mountains, up rockets modernity— steel and stone: the tallest this the mightiest that— improves cityscape, rapt accolades, and allure. Beguiling! Rivaling green fiddlers on the rooftops until all laburnum sunsets sit in museums. And then one day you see an ocher scarf pinned by the wind to a wire so you huff and puff to a museum. © selma
Wikipedia Fun facts:
The original Ferris Wheel, sometimes also referred to as the Chicago Wheel, was
designed and built by George Washington Gale Ferris Jr. as the centerpiece of
the Midway at the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago, Illinois. Since its
construction, many other Ferris wheels have been constructed that were patterned
after it.
With a height of 80.4 meters (264 ft), the first Ferris wheel was the tallest attraction
at the World’s Columbian Exposition, which opened to the public on June 21, 1893.
It was intended to rival the 324-meter (1,063 ft) Eiffel Tower, the centerpiece of the
1889 Paris Exposition.
The tallest Ferris wheel, the 250-meter (820 ft) Ain Dubai in the United Arab Emirates,
opened in October 2021. The previous record holder since 2014 had been the 167.6-meter (550 ft) High Roller in Las Vegas, Nevada, which opened to the public in March
2014.
Thanks for reading. And thanks to PoM, Melissa Laymay for the loveliest prompt.
And David for hosting it. Blessings to everyone.

I was waiting for this one, Selma, and was not disappointed. You took the challenge in a whole new (and I think very important) direction.
Huff and puff indeed, and not of the magic dragon variety. Such a high price we pay today, but it doesn’t have to be this way. If people could hold back a little, and let the market settle, maybe bl we’d find a balanced way to live, in harmony with nature.
I’ve got my rose tinted spectacles on, but all the roses outside are dead.
Happy you liked it, Tanmay.
And this: “I’ve got my rose tinted spectacles on, but all the roses outside are dead.” Ooooh sad situation we’re heading into if we don’t reconsider. Let nature teach and guide us. Xoxo
Blessings on your new day. And good night from me.
Selma ~ you are so good. I have to second Tanmay’s comment… my thoughts echo his.
Just brilliantly written.
Much love,
David
🐢 thanks David 🐢

Thanks, David.
I sat at a Café earlier and drafted something. 😁 😜 Will post tomorrow to this wonderful prompt. I’ll write a sonnet any day before I attempt a villanelle — those make my head spin. And my head spins (vertigo) right now. 🤪 not funny 😠
Thanks. XoXo
that’s so interesting! I would much prefer a villanelle over a sonnet!
You’re in a league that towers over me—like THAT Ferris wheel 🎡
So cool, you 💗
that is NOT true – it’s just a matter of taste! Sonnets are super hard to write for me!
Thanks! I love what you’ve done here.
“until all laburnum sunsets
sit in museums.”
A frightening thought.
A frightening thought indeed. Bless you. Wonderful prompt.
This is a brilliant poem Selma. Bravo
Thanks, Sadje. Glad you saw into it. Xoxo 😘
Of course my friend
What a powerful poetic message you created from the image. Well-chosen and well written!
I appreciate your presence, sweet lady. And glad you enjoyed the poem. Blessings.
It feels good to be appreciated. Thank you very much, kind heart. 🙏🏻 Sending it back to you. 🤗
Two good things happened today. 1. My ear discomfort (vertigo) lifted. 😮💨 happy.
2. I received a lovely package from beautiful YOU. Thank you so much.
You swollen my heart so 💕 I bless you. Xoxo I’ll be back ‘there’ for lovely purchases. Xoxo
Wonderful news! Thanks so much for sharing, Selma. 😊 Thank goodness you found relief – vertigo is terrible! I shared your news with artist Sammi. She is thrilled! Thanks so much for participating. 🙏🏻💐 Enjoy! xoxo
A ferris wheel is like a dream. (K)
Like a dream. Yes. (((Hugs))).
The great poetic.
Xoxo

Oh Selma, this is another awesome creation and quite powerful I might add my dear! Hugs and smooches. 😘🥂🤗💖😍
I love what you did with this prompts. Although, I have to admit… I’m don’t like Ferris wheels because I’m afraid of heights.
Can I edit my comment for mistakes? I was typing too fast 😅
This is a great poem 😍😍😍😍😍😍
