Ha’sonnet: Dear Life–A Prayer

Dear Lake

do all you can
to console me
sometimes a man
longs to be free
of the harsh words
that minds subverts—
change doom to bloom

*

Dear Sky

I withhold doubt
go with the crowd
but I want out:
it’s disallowed
melancholy
is not manly
the frame of shame

*

Dear Life

I feel hollow
deep down inside
my days are low
and woe betide
grant me a wish
so I can ditch
abyss for bliss

“Men are not prisoners of fate, but
only prisoners of their own minds.”
~ Franklin D. Roosevelt

Written in response to Sadje’s What Do You See 247 July 29, 2024 prompt.

For the visually challenged reader, this image shows a sculpture of a man, made
by welding alphabets together. The sculpture is located at Atwater Park, overlooking
the lake. In the distance, you can see the sun setting over the water and a cloudy sky.

Sadje awaits your responses.

I started intending to write a sonnet, but since “I don’t have one, a ha’sonnet will have
to do.”
Thanks, Stephen, Sir 🙇🏽‍♀️.

It has been a very long time since I wrote a ha’sonnet. Thanks for reading today.

“The heart of man is very much like the sea;
it has its storms, it has its tides,
and in its depths, it has its pearls too.” ~ Vincent Van Gogh

Did you know? June was Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month. Today’s Image for
WDYS prompt reminded me of this. Here’s a belated post to all men.

Selma, a beautiful post! Wonderful quotes! The poem is so heartfelt and empathetic. When people are constrained by traditional gender rules, both men and women suffer.

Beautiful post, wonderful quotes, Selma! Such an empathetic and insightful poem! Traditional gender roles limit the potential and constrain the fulfillment of both men and women!
