Unwieldy Nelle or Timorous Poet: Take-Two
Once a wannabe villanelle, now a mirrored refrain that made me work hard.
Except for the time my heart not yet knew yours, When squalls deafened and pierced my aching heart Never to revert, lest hearts start to swoon Forward going to the rhythm of one earth The whole day through my soul adores you now From amethyst morn past the lilt of afternoon Forward going to the rhythm of one earth Never to revert, lest hearts start to swoon But for the time that passed me fleeting Cocky was I pretending I was so smart Never to revert, lest hearts start to swoon Forward going to the rhythm of one earth Hail to the sun — gives life, our faith remains true, Praise to puddles that mirror light like silver spoons Forward going to the rhythm of one earth Never to revert, lest hearts start to swoon I cannot imagine how I lived without you Not for a moment from you be apart Never to revert, lest hearts start to swoon Forward going to the rhythm of one earth Like condor wings, gliding, soaring, we come through Immune from imbalance, hearts in tune Forward going to the rhythm of one earth Never to revert, lest hearts start to swoon Enraptured in music borne of stardust and morning dew I look to us for daysprings of togetherness in every restart Never to revert, lest hearts start to swoon Forward going to the rhythm of one earth May I never awake any dawning feeling blue, Nor lay me to sleep without you in shadows of the moon Forward going to the rhythm of one earth Never to revert, lest hearts start to swoon. *** © 2021 selmamartin.com
Giving the form another go…(and then another. Thanks, David)
“Experience comes from bad judgment.” ~ Mark Twain quote
Mirrored Refrain The Mirrored Refrain is rhyming verse form constructed by Stephanie Repnyek. The poem is formed by three or more quatrains where two lines within the quatrain are the “mirrored refrain” or alternating refrain.
Mirrored Refrain The rhyme scheme is as follows: xaBA, xbAB, xaBA, xbAB, etc... x represents the only lines that do not rhyme within the poem. A and B represent the refrain. Example: Child of His Earth by Stephanie Repnyek Please click this link to read the poem example. (First provided by dVerse).
Participation is closed now at dVerse, but I had to give it a try.
The challenge WAS: Write a poem in mirrorred refrain form. You choose your theme, and refraining lines following the stanza structure as described.
I appreciate the challenge.

Selma, this is lovely 💘
I think every second line is supposed to rhyme with its fourth line.
What a blessing you are, David. Thanks so much for helping out. I’ve adjusted accordingly. I swear, I struggled with this form. No excuses. I thank you for setting me straight. (Pingback: mentioned you *heart*) I bless you. Be safe.
