…and the bugs and crickets and beetles, and all the creatures of the night, stopped all activity to look at her— astonished. All, except the giant silk moth.
she curtsied dusted silken wings off she went
The moth flapped her wings and rose, higher and higher, getting herself closer and closer to her namesake— Luna.
But Luna was on a mission she could not forfeit— she had lands to illuminate, people to present to. So she kept her metered course until at last (and I’ve seen this happen countless times before) the mountains rose to meet Luna, conspired to ease the transport of that heavenly body, that, pregnant or not, couldn’t afford to be late.

What a fun prompt that doesn’t take much to entice as I’m already a lunatic for the subject today. Thank you, dVerse Poets Pub— you guys rock!
As is my nightly routine, as I blew the moon a kiss, the silence and light mesmerized me. Grabbed my phone, and this picture resulted. (A bit muddled, but hey, it was dark and cloudy, and it’s from my phone). But (hopefully) just in time to participate for Monday at the Poets Pub. Thank you again.
And for TankaTuesday, the good people at Colleen’s Prose and Poetry are talking about Traveling this week– #TANKA TUESDAY #POETRY CHALLENGE NO. 227 #THEMEPROMPT– Again, anyone can join this fantastic website where they generously offer details on how to do tanka the right way. So glad I found them. Thanks, Colleen.
I honor Gaia.

The almanac tells me that the full moon on Wednesday, May 26th — Flower Moon, is a Supermoon and a Lunar Eclipse! Wow. I hope we all have clear skies on that night.

You had me with the opening line – enchanting! Lovely photo too 🙂
Thanks for enjoying that opening line, Ingrid and for sharing your thoughts with me. Precious, is what you are.
Be well.
Gotta run out to get a look at her as she’s already gracing the sky here.
And the best part is that it’s not cloudy tonight. Yay.
Have a gorgeous day today.
Oh, lucky you! Enjoy that moon 🌝
Wow; this would make a great children’s story, I think! It’s lovely.
<3

*smiling* Thanks for those words. You’ve no idea how happy you’ve made me.
I appreciate you reading and commenting.
Be well, dear friend.
I have a six-year-old daughter, so I consider myself to be a bit of an authority 😉
Six. So precious! And you’re right to consider yourself that. There’s so much growing that comes through us when we have children around.
Wow. Keep growing. Having children does that to us.
Incidentally, if you liked this one, I’m pretty sure she’d like the mermaid one I wrote to publish after I return from my walk.
Oh, man. I’m loving these prompts. Wish I didn’t need to sleep to stay up with you guys.
Good company. Thanks. 💕
I love the moon picture, it has a dream like effect. You have a story here, and I want to know more:)
Thanks for reading, D.L. Bless your heart.
wow. this is magical and so so so beautifully captured the mystic of the moon. Love this line: So she kept her metered course
Aww, you 💕 Thanks for reading. Glad to be in your company here.
Have a fantabulous day today. I wish you miracles.
The mountains rising to the moon. A powerful and delightful image! Loved this!
I love this, Selma. The insects and the giant silk moth, the moon and the mental pictures and story it told. 🙂
Aww. Love your comment. Thanks.
Hi Selma, great writing. Too cloudy to see the moon yesterday, thanks for sharing it!
It was cloudy here in Japan too. And when I’m at home the full moon doesn’t show her presence until around 8:30. Before that the mountains prevent my view. But the heavy clouds last night and the eclipse made it impossible to feel her.
Until I spotted her light at 10:06!
Tonight cloudy. No luminous moon to see yet.
Thanks for the comment, Elizabeth. Be well.
Selma, this is a spectacular piece of work. It rained here in Michigan so I missed the full moon. Once it cleared up later in the early morning hours, I did get a glimpse of that mysterious orb. I loved this! <3
Hey, Colleen, that moon… she was a shy one this time. We gotta forgive her for that. And the clouds that persist even today, are not helping one bit.
But the last of the fireflies are out doing their courtship dance. Saw a handful of them last night. Quite an early treat. Like an “omake” (consolation price) if you will. 😃
thanks for reading and commenting. I appreciate you. Be well, dear one. I wish you miracles.
I love fireflies and what an apt description! Absolutely gorgeous, Selma. ❤️🌸❤️🌸❤️🌸
How lovely!
your prose reads like a wonderful fairytale. And how evocative your haiku are. Thank you for such a beautiful write!
Thanks, much. I value this kind of encouragement. Glad you enjoyed my offering today. I’ll return. Be well. I wish you miracles
I love the image of that hurrying moon… and she will be back even as she wanes.
