Written for Colleen Chesebro’s Word Craft: Prose and Poetry, where the week calls for
Poet’s Choice (with a twist). For this week, I took a peek at the poet’s collective and
chose the Arkquain Form to write a poem about my love for the old tradition of sending and receiving Christmas cards. They enhance my enjoyment of this festive season.

Thanks for reading and commenting.
I wish you a stress-free December, full of gratitude and giving, and merriment.
To you, who celebrate Christmas,
Merry Christmas, Happy Christmas, Happy Holidays.
And if Christmas is not your cup of tea,
I wish you Happy/Super/Joyous December Celebrations
for Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Winter Solstice,
the new secular HumanLight,
and any festival or tradition you celebrate
during the month of December.
And
miracles too.

It’s always so wonderful to send and receive cards during festivals. But sadly in India the practice is slowly fading away.
Hope your festive preperation is going on with full gusto Selma. ❤️

Hey, Radhika. Thanks for the comment. Yes. It’s going in the right direction.
The number of physical cards I receive is not nearly what I send out — many opt to return the greeting by email or text with fancy digital wonders that are non printable. So like in your country, the tradition is dwindling. Saddens me. Anyway, I continue sending with all the gusto I can muster.
Season greetings, my lovely. Be well.

So glad you enjoyed it Jane. Thanks. xo 🌲 xo

Beautiful poem! Sending cards to loved ones is a lovely tradition. But with technology playing its role, it’s become a rarity. I’ve never received or given anyone a card for any festival, except when we were required to do it at school for card-making competitions!
You’ve chosen a beautiful style of poetry. (When didn’t your experiments work wonders? 😉).

You’re too generous with your compliments, Sam. I love having you as my cheerleader. Love your thoughts.
I’ll stick with the tradition as long as I’m able.
Mine are gone and I’ve started to receive replies that they made it on time. Yay! And I’ve received two so far. Haha. Yay!
AND on Wednesday I received a Christmas Surprise from my very good friend, Author Grurpreet from India. Her latest poetry collection. Wow. It was autographed and all. Wow. All the way from India. Imagine my joy. I’m over the moon happy about that. Yay. I’m truly blessed.
Be well, my sweet. You’ll hear from me in a few days.
Stay sweet. I wish you miracles.

Wow, love your global friendship circles! I’m not surprised at all, considering what a sweet soul you are.
Can’t wait to hear from you.
I wish you miracles too 😀

I have an interfaith family – some traditions are celebrated at different homes – but all are filled with light and love.
May your New Year be filled with health and happiness.

Merry Christmas Selma. It’s great to hear from people we’ve missed all year…I’m as guilty as anyone of that. (K)

  7. Selma Martin

Merry Christmas to you too, dear K. And all the best in the new year.
I enjoy writing and sending them out. But in truth the number of physical cards I receive is not nearly what I send out — many opt to return the greeting by email or text with fancy digital non printable wonders. So this leads one to believe the tradition is dwindling. Sad but I’ll take the digital ones any day. Anyway, I continue sending because I like doing it.
Be well, dearest K. Again, merry Christmas.

Giving and receiving cards have always been the highlight of my Christmas as a kid 😁 Nice one Selma, love the holiday spirit 🤗💖

    1. Selma Martin

I send them out because I love receiving. As long as that feeling remains, I will continue sending. And from the results I’ve already received this month, I think I will never stop. All the joy I send out boomerangs back to me. A true blessing.
Thanks for reading and engaging with my poem, Daphny. Stay sweet. I wish you miracles.

I love your reasons behind the festive writing of this poem and how the idea of letters from around the world creates a universal feeling in your words!

    1. Selma Martin

Hey, Jaya. Lovely to hear your thoughts on this one. Yes, the old tradition is still alive in me. I reckon I’m too set in my old ways.
Each one goes out with joy and brings me joy x2 on the return trip. Love it.
Thanks for the comment. Wishing you a stress-free rest-of-the-month and joyous holidays.
