Extra, Extra! An Introspective Heartfelt Plea: My Translation of W.B. Yeat’s Poem

TO HIS HEART, BIDDING IT HAVE NO FEAR

This poem’s brevity and rhythmic cadence create a sense of urgency,
& emphasizes the need for the heart to find solace and protection.

                          TO H I S HEART B I D D I N G IT
H A V E N O F E A R

Be you still, be you still, trembling heart;
Remember the w i s d o m out of the old days:
Him who trembles before the flame and the flood,
And the winds that blow through the starry ways,
Let the starry winds and the flame and the flood
Cover over and hide, for he has no part
With the lonely, majestical multitude.

Selma’s Translation:

Don’t miss what’s important–your inner peace
Don’t ignore what you already have–your inner light

…events and situations change daily
…distractions and circumstances keep us moving

Let’s shift our attention to stillness.
Let’s focus on bringing our inner lights out to lead us to a better place.
Let’s do it for each other: this is our superpower.

How To Get Started:

Look for the “breaking news (new buds)” in your garden and other areas
of life that bring you joy.

Here’s something that brings me joy that I want to share with you:

Tibouchina and Black-eyed Susans in my yard
Tibouchina and Black-eyed Susans in bloom in my yard

… and a poem I wrote in 2022 for a dVerse prompt.

Octelle: Now She’s Music

She once was pure prose, love-smitten
Stuffed in a drawer, well-hidden
An ocean of words wading
Her cherub muscles fading
August sun brought acoustic
Pulled her strings, gave her music
She once was pure prose, love-smitten
Stuffed in a drawer, well-hidden

The Octelle was created by Emily Romano.
The poem consists of eight lines and uses
personification and symbolism in a telling manner.

The syllable count structure is 8, 8, 7, 7, 7, 7, 8, 8,
the rhyme scheme is aa/bb/cc/aa,
and the first two and last two lines are identical.

…this little light of mine,
I’m going to let it shine
let it shine, all the time, let it shine

I’m sending this one out with my light for everyone who needs a reminder today.

Here’s a glimpse of what I’m holding today.
But I’m waiting, too, for the actual paperback to arrive.
