Deb, from Nope, Not Pam, does some fantastic drawings of animals on Sundays. Cuteness personified, and she gets better every week.
Last week she published one of a cassowary. My friends, have you ever seen a cassowary? Not me, Nah ah.
And so, I did a little research. Wow, colorful creature.
Bless his little heart and Deb’s for adding value to my Sunday by sending me down
that research where I learned that dingos, crocodiles, and humans are this
cute little guy’s predators.
Deb is starting a project to draw animals from A – Z; all animals and anyone can join.
For me, researching the cassowary was fun, so I promised Deb I’d join her with A.
“, if you want to draw something
beginning with the letter A, or post a photo,
a poem, anything at all, next week feel free to join me,” says Deb.
So, without much ado, I wish to introduce you to April, the famed reticulated giraffe at
the Animal Adventure Park in New York, U.S.A.
Fun Facts Funday for April:
Born April 18th, 2000
Notoriety: April became a viral sensation in February 2017 while being monitored by a
live stream giving birth to her fourth offspring on YouTube. Nearly 1.2 million viewers
watched the birth. How cool is that?
Died April 2nd, 2021 — euthanized at 20 due to worsening arthritis.
Together with the Rothschild giraffe, the reticulated giraffe is by far the giraffe
most commonly seen in zoos.
Its coat consists of large, polygonal, liver-colored spots outlined by a network of bright-white lines. The blocks may sometimes appear deep red and may also cover the legs. Giraffes are the tallest mammals in the world
Giraffa camelopardalis reticulata or G. reticulata, also known as the Somali giraffe,
is a subspecies or species of giraffe native to the Horn of Africa. It lives in Somalia,
southern Ethiopia, and northern Kenya.
The park where April lived is the first in the state of New York to achieve ZAA accreditation and joins just over 60 other facilities in the country: ZAA Facilities
For those interested, the park reopens on April 27th, 2022
