Hello friends, The Tale Of Genji—have you read it?
Why not? Don’t answer that, dear one. But today I want to tell you that
Genji Monogatari by Murasaki Shikibu has me stuttering with disbelief
and reprimanding myself for never attempting this before.
“No art or learning is to be pursued halfheartedly…
and any art worth learning will certainly reward
more or less generously the effort made to study it.”
~ Murasaki Shikibu
Author of The Tale of Genji
Well, I don’t know how to tell you about this book, so I’ll let that amazing guy
from Leaf to Leaf do me the honors and probably convince a handful of you who
will nod at least once as he elaborates in his ‘opening remarks’ whom The Tale
of Genji by Murasaki Shikibu is for.
The video is long but I hope you have ~TWO minutes
(0:00-1:50)
to listen to the opening remarks to
ascertain IF YOU fit the profile…
After that, you’re on your own. 😉
This stuttering: Yūgen (perhaps)
“Yūgen is an important concept in traditional Japanese aesthetics. The exact
translation of the word depends on the context. Yūgen is not an allusion to
another world. It is about this world, this experience…
“Japanese aesthetic ideals are most heavily influenced by Japanese Buddhism.
In the Buddhist tradition, all things are considered as either evolving from or
dissolving into nothingness. This “nothingness” is not empty space. It is rather
a space of potentiality.” ~ Source
I’m about to begin my second reading of this amazing thing that happens
to be in my hands right now. Burrowed from the library.
Perhaps you’ll join me?
Perhaps you have one question for me?
Thanks so much for being here. I bless you and wish you miracles.

I think that I would love this! p.s. I had a parent in my classroom with this name, and knowing her, i think the name was perfect for her.
And I think you fit the profile 😃 😉
you’d love it, I know. 👏🏽
‘yugen’ was her name
Yugen. Thats a wonderful name indeed. And so perceptive of you for thinking the name perfect for her. Wow.
Of course, I think you’re already amazing. Blessings, Beth. Happy Sunday.
Sounds like a fabulous read, Selma. xx
Narrative, dialogue and poetry: all in one book! There’s everything to love here, Colleen. I’m sure you’d enjoy it too.
It really is like “Eavesdropping in” on the lives of the Nobles of the Heian Period.
The Genji makes for a good story character.
Thanks for reading and commenting my friend. I bless you.
Sounds intriguing! I’m hoping my local library has it, thanks for sharing, Selma. 😘❤️
Oh Dora—that is an almost certainty. I’m sure your library would have that.
And I’m sure you fit the profile of who’d love that story—Narrative, dialogue, and poetry: all in one book 🤩 everything to love!! 👏🏽
Blessings.
You have piqued my interest, Selma.
Glad about this. Relinquish all ideas and let the winds of the book transport you. 👏🏽
Xoxo no pressure, but let me know if you take the plunge. 💗
😊😉
Glad about this, Maria dear. Relinquish all ideas and let the winds of the book transport you. 👏🏽 Xoxo no pressure, but let me know if you take the plunge. 💗
Hi Selma, I’ve always like the principles of Buddhism. I like the idea of nothingness being an opportunity.
An opportunity. Isn’t that enlightening? Methinkso 😉 blessings, Robbie.
I totally enjoyed your watercolor of the King of the Jungle. Wow. Amazing.
I haven’t read it but I find it fascinating after reading stories about this time period.
Fascinating 🧐 yes. 👏🏽
I am intrigued, Selma, thank you for sharing. xoxo
Intriguing. I’m spending 2 hours with the book in my hands (I’m a slow reader) but thinking about the story the rest of the day. 🙈
Blessings, Lauren. Xo
I am intrigued…I don’t have two hours to spare just now 😅 but I have bookmarked, thank you 🙏❤️
🙃 I think you’re busy, Lady Ingrid. Bless you. Hugs.
