Day18 Glo/NaPoWriMo: Time To Focus On These Five Answers

Day Eighteen

on APRIL 18, 2022

Happy eighteenth day of Na/GloPoWriMo, everybody!

Today’s featured participant is Sunra Rainz, who provides a moving response to Day 17’s canine prompt.
Our featured online journal for the day is Waccamaw. They’ve typically published issues twice a year, and are now up to their 26th. In their newest issue, I’ll point you to Elizabeth Muscari’s poem “Cannoli,” and John A. Nieves’ “They Named Us All John/Juan.”
Last but not least, here is today’s prompt (optional, as always). It’s based on Faisal Mohyuddin’s poem “Five Answers to the Same Question.” Today, I’d like to challenge you to write your own poem that provides five answers to the same question – without ever specifically identifying the question that is being answered. Happy writing!

>>Haikus contain three lines and most haiku writers prefer poems that refer
to nature and social events in their 7-17 syllabic form of either, 2-3-2; 3-5-3
0r 5-7-5.
>>Senryu is another short poetry form, similar to haiku in construction: three

lines with 7-17 syllables.  However, senryu tend to be about human foibles.
>>Tanka are written in first person POV and follow a pattern of 5-7-5-7-7.

All, I learned from this book on Amazon. Check it out.

>>My Gogyohka today is an unrestricted form. It usually contains five lines
but can contain four or six lines. The theme is unrestricted, too.
My theme is not mentioned as per the prompt for today that requests a poem that

provides five answers to the same question — without ever specifically identifying
the question that is being answered. What fun! I think you’ll guess right away.
Happy reading

i
Oh yes, I agree
A small word for a whole world
Only four letters
It will have to do

ii
Lain by the clover
Novel like a new morning
The buzz of the bees,
Morning dew and me

iii
A lifetime of joy
Goodness & beauty entwined
Greens, blues, and golden
Choral twilight song

iv
It befalls like night
Points you to the stars above
Bathes you in warm hues
Tender like the night

v
Eh, how did I know?
The lonesome years departed
I heard them leaving
Life became a dance

Are we talking about love Selmal? The four letters, morning dew, twilight song… Everything points towards it. Splendid imagery. And thank you for introducing a new form here. I’d like to check out Gogyohka. Might use it soon.
