Day15 Glo/NaPoWriMo: I Dare You To Reclaim The Feeling #TankaTuesday

Day Fifteen

on APRIL 15, 2022

Happy Friday, all!
Today I’m going off prompt but if you click on the NaPoWriMo link above you can view the prompt for Day Fifteen and follow along if you like.

My poem today is a response to another prompt: Colleen Chesebro’s Specific Form
on Word Craft Poetry TankaTuesday where we’re writing Tanka Prose. It’s a prose envelope, written in the poem tale (episodic narration) style (I think).

Once we pause a moment to stop blaming each other for this or that, we
come to realize how each of us is good at our core — we want to do good: it feels good to do good for another. But somewhere in our haste to be grownup we shed our capacity for empathy and with it goes the feel-good emotion too.

Everyone can sense
Similarities we share
Heartbeats of the soul
Foolhardy to ignore it
Good object to emblazon

Oh, we all feel it when we lose it but we put on a brave face and suck it in like we see grownups do. The good news is we can still reclaim the feel-good traits we came baring at birth but at the risk of being different. Talk about intentional living. Talk about setting ourselves up for scrutiny. What if there were more people who dared to differ? Imagine!

Any fool can feel
The traits we have in common
Human compassion
Unwise to be without it
It’s a win to celebrate.

Yes, we are more the same than we are different, and we sometimes stray from that understanding. Nice write.

  7. Beautiful tankas, Selma! The wisdom in these verses is so fundamental, yet so often ignored. The world would be a much better place if more people had empathy.

I actually found that format quite difficult to read, though the sentiment still shone through like a ray of light

    1. Selma Martin

Sorry about that Deb. I still need lots of practice. 😢 But glad you got the sentiment intact. Stay sweet. xoxo

It is difficult to imange any leader of people who put their comforts before others and also disclaim or won’t recognize all the family they have.
While not all family get along… when you are in a position of leadership to ignore those your have fathered… to me is unthinkable.

I was reading today how many members of royalty had additional children with others… some totally ignored and others not recognized until later in life.

IF – such a small word with a huge impact.

Some people… I cannot understand some people.
      love your comment, Jules.

Thanks for stopping. Comments mean the world to me. Won't you please leave one?
