Mayday! Mayday! Mayday! Poets need a play day If they're here to make headway Right now they need a holiday So what's the word of the day? The (optional) prompt or the sway Bon, de quoi veux-tu parler? It's Friday, Fri-yay! Who am I to disobey No sir, not today I wanna dance to some reggae Or try to catch a matinee Been feelin' the seams tearing away Like I need me some strong vitamin K So from workstation staying away Opening a good Cabernet Or should we go for a Beaujolais? And my amig@, let me say Today you may overstay Together with me come away And paint it red for a day Before we each hit the hay Let's explore while we may Seize the day without delay Tomorrow we rhyme away. *** © 2021 selmamartin.com
And last but not least, our (optional) prompt. Because it’s Friday, today I’d like you to relax with the rather silly form called Skeltonic, or tumbling, verse. In this form, there’s no specific number of syllables per line, but each line should be short, and should aim to have two or three stressed syllables. And the lines should rhyme. You just rhyme the same sound until you get tired of it, and then move on to another sound. Skeltonic verse is a fun way to get some words on the page without racking your brains for deep meaning. It’s a form that lends itself particularly well to poems for children, satirical verse, and just plain nonsense. Happy writing!
Perfect timing, NaPoWriMo— I needed this today.
I hope you enjoyed this as much as I enjoyed coming up with the nonsense.
Happy weekend everyone, and as always I wish you miracles.

A big yes to dancing to Reggae
Glad. Now I have a partner to dance with. Yay! Thanks for this note. Be well. I wish you miracles.
Brilliant opening stanza. Loved it. Hope you had a fun play day 🙂
Wow…such a jolly and gay one
Yup, A bonus day! Glad for the comment. Thanks Sangbad. Be well. I wish you miracles.
Woot! A TGIF anthem. I think you make every poetry day a play day. Amazing how many on-point rhymes you managed without switching once. Though you do switch languages to expand the rhyming possibilities. And to that I say YAY!
Hurray Hurray!
I know, right… forgive the tardiness. Too much on my plate. But I still love you best. Let me know how I can help. You are one of my faves. Be well. Di. I wish you miracles
