Burn Them But, Like Love, Words Live Forever In Boundless Heart

If ev’ry word burnt had power to sway
And ev’ry word said, the power to rile

How much of the world would learn ev’ry word?
Who’d stay to listen to words that were said?

For words writ down are just ink on paper
And ev’ry word uttered, wind pollutants

But for the words that touch somebody’s heart;
No flame in hell skews the strength of such words

About words/love/soulmates:

“I love you not only for what you are, but for what I am
when I am with you. I love you not only for what you have
made of yourself, but for what you are making of me.
I love you for the part of me that you bring out.”

~ Elizabeth Barrett Browning

  4. Well-written poem with a powerful message, Selma! <3 I remember both compliments and rebukes from over 60 years ago as if they were spoken or read today. I cringe sometimes at having said a few things over my lifetime that I now regret.

    Words have value when they entrap, yet words of love are stronger when they free us all.
