Big-Toe Dip in The Waters of Spillwords

“Be humble, for you are made
of dung.
Be noble, for you are made
of stars.”

Serbian Proverb

Until today, I’ve been only a reader at Spillwords, where I’ve had the honor to read
outstanding literature. And the awareness that such a place existed only came
about because of the fantastic WordPress community’s writers, who get published
there often.

You know who you are: I see you excitedly announcing being published at
Spillwords and so much wanted to be one of you.

So I submitted two pieces to their 13 Days of Halloween special.

Well, my pieces did NOT make the cut (not selected to the series due to an
overwhelming amount of submissions)– I totally understand. But I was blessed
to receive word that they’d publish one as part of

‘Spillwords Halloween’
#SpillwordsHalloween

Aww, to be a part of something so lovely. Thanks so dearly.

An old short story turned poem, “On Hallows’ Eve, A Nightmare,” is scheduled to be
published today, October 24th, at 2 am Eastern Time
(15 minutes ago, if I’m not
mistaken) and I’d like you to lend support to that lovely publication (and me as well,
please) Thanks so much.

Read at your own risk:
This nightmare
is still roaming the universe.
Try not to catch this scare

Here’s a preview:

At the howling, Meg shots up, eyes peeled into the gelid air
urgently straightens, hands flutter, outstretched,
in her ears, her heartbeats pound loud
choking, she stumbles toward the wall

“Ouch,” she moans, dropping to her buttocks,
and to the pain, she waives for awhile
woozy, too sick to fight its clawed grips
her starched fingers search long

Resigned, she drags her bottom on the hard floor,
but cold fingertips inform: into the air she probes.
“Where’s-the-wall,” she quakes. “This can’t be happening!”
her eyes search the nightmare in vain
the howls grow louder and nearer now
slumped on the floor, she caves into her wobbly middle
as the rest of her beats ooze out

She applies pressure to the rip on her foot & changes….

My lovelies, won’t you please continue reading at spillwords?
Thanks so much.
And if this fails to scare you,
I hope it makes you smile.

And now I’m trying to make good with the link they provided me. If the first one doesn’t
take you directly to the site, please try the second one. Thanks most sincerely.

The link to it once published:

I had to make an unexpected hop-over in Tokyo today Monday, so I’m away from my
computer. Will adjust later if the links don’t work. Thank you for understanding and
being here. I wish you miracles.
