Are You Looking for God?

“And He found you lost and guided you.” — Quran 93:7

A writer friend of mine recently wrote about being disillusioned at not being able to find God in the places he went looking.

“I looked,” he demurred, “ in my school and in church, but God was not there.”

Now, this colleague is not entirely wrong about where he went looking for God. School and church would be the places where we’d think of looking first.

“The people in my church sing, participate and behave nicely at church, but outside of church, I’ve seen them behave in ways that make me cringe. Ungodly even.”

He’s not alone in his observation. I’ve had countless occasions where I’ve felt the same way about some people. But though we think of church as the place where people who already ‘know’ God congregate, we need to refocus and start searching with a different set of eyes.

In my humble opinion, not all, but the majority of these ‘pious’ churchgoers are looking for God themselves. And probably church is a place where they feel most ‘in the presence’ of God. I’ve had that happen to me as well. *sigh*

But what most of us fail to realize is that God is not something outside of ourselves; something we could find in a place or in the behavior of people who are in that place. Not always.

If we think of God as something outside ourselves, an image of what we think God is, that’s probably because somewhere, be it through teachers, family or the clergy, we learned to associate that image with God.
Not our fault, really.

But I believe that once a person has embarked on a search for God, that person is ready to be guided into the amazing discovery of finding God.

If this is you today, I applaud you — you’re ready.  And in a humble way, I want to help you call forth the intuitive knowledge of your soul because today, dear reader, you will discover God.

Let me branch out a bit here.

Let’s for a moment, talk about Love.
Ah, love!
You know about love, right?
You know that love is real!
And so you also must know that Love is Energy.
Yes, love is that intuitive knowledge of our souls.
And, there again, you must know that the way that we come to experience love is through non-judgment, generosity, compassion, acceptance, kindness and virtues that come from ‘the purity’ that lives in us.
Love IS our default setting.
Love exists in us.

Well see now, that is exactly what God is. God is love. And like love, God is energy, a continuum.

And like love, that energy lives inside of you and me.
God lives inside!

If you’re still a tad bit skeptical, think back to this cool passage from the Bible:

God created us in His image. — Genesis 1:26

Hello!

Need I say more, dear friends? God is closer than you know! God is the love within us.

So now, cloaked in that knowledge, let’s stop looking for God outside of ourselves and instead set our minds to accept this truth about who we are and who God is and let’s start experiencing this amazing God-ness we already possess.

Let’s embrace this knowledge and in time we will come to recognize God in all people, in all places where we meet.

I’m glad if this was helpful to you today. I bless you.

Go in God.
Go be God.
You’ve found God!
